Default DDO Crash after Character Selection

I been getting this odd crash just after selecting my character and clic "enter", the game will just crash... i am on a AthlonII X2 240, 2GB DDR3, AsRock m3a790gxh/128m motherboard with a hd3300 onboard... what is more strange is that the exact thing happends on my laptop Compaq Presario R3360US that has a ATi Radeon 9000 onboard, i think there is some issue related to either catalyst or the ati drivers....

    Please help me!

Ah yes, i got WinXP Pro SP3, DX9.0c on both pcs... i did already tried a 8800GT on this same pc and it works, so im pretty sure its something related with Ati gpu, driver or catalyst.

I think just right after clicking on the "Enter" button the game loads drivers... so is a driver related issue, but i dont know what could be causing it.

    I've found a solution!!

All you have to do is go to My Documents and delete the DDO map. This only removes your settings, resolution and such. Then just boot the game and it works! At least it did for me

    Exclamation

I got some of the same problem with my 8800GT!
When i log into a server and the game is about to start, my computer just freezes and after
a few about 30 seconds it shows a blue screen for about a half second and reboots!

So darn annoying, what can the problem be?

EDIT: Now 20 minutes later or something, after the character selection i press Enter the game loads till the end and without freezing or any error messages the game just shuts down as quick as i started it without a sound...

I tried my 8800GT XFX again and guess what? same problem... i have tried the game on 3 different pcs with different gpu and i get the exact same problem on each:

    First Setup:
    Xeon Irwindale 3.60Ghz HTT
    8GB Ram
    8800GT XFX 512
    Sound Blaster 128 PCI
    Win XP Pro SP3

    Second Setup:
    Pentium4 Prescott 3.00Ghz HTT
    1Gb Ram
    Radeon 9000 128Mb
    SoundMax
    Win XP Pro SP3

    Third Setup:
    AthlonII x2 Regor 3.60Ghz
    2Gb Ram
    Radeon 3300HD 700Mb
    Realtek HD Audio
    Win Xp Pro SP3

They all crash just right after selecting character and clic on "Enter", instant crash with no error #.

I may just give up and try another MMO... this is sad because i have played the game and i really liked it and planned to become a VIP Member, but i cant seem to get it to work on any of my pcs, thumbs down for DDO Unlimited and its horrible compatibility, so far this is the only single game i get instant crash on different setups.

Same problem, but only get it on one of two of my PCs.

Just to be clear, the problem manifests as follows:

I can log in past the launcher fine. I can choose a character fine. While loading in the actual game itself it then freezes with weird green flecks on the screen. After exactly three attempts (and three forced reboots of the PC - Ctrl Alt Del doesn't cut it, its a hold-down-the-power-button job), it usually then logs in fine.

As an aside, the motherboard on the problem PC died last night (it was always problematic, I'd just put it down to that). I've bought a new MB and processor today, set it all up happily, and the problem still occurs. So at least I know its not my motherboard, nor is it the onboard sound or cheap sound card I had on the last motherboard, since they're all totally different manufacturers!

So, having ruled them out, I have an nvidia 9800 GT and 2GB corsair DDR2 RAM from the old system as the only 'processing' items swapped over from the old set up, so unless its got a problem with my harddrives or something, its probably a conflict with GFX or RAM - I'd bet the GFX card more than anything else. It does have the latest drivers though. I've just deleted the DDO folder in documents, am going to try a relaunch, let you know if it sorts it.

    Default Was working fine yesterday

I was playing yesterday fine the game was downloading the full game portion on turbine over night. Still is Now suddenly having the same problem. When I try to enter I see the green flecks like the graphics all messed up and it crashes and says the client has encountered a problem. Dont really understand since it was working yesterday and I was on and playing. Haven't changed anything on my computer. Only thing different is its been downloading the main part of the game. Anyone ever figure out what the problem is?

Update to my last post - no, it didn't sort the problem. Even temporarily.

I discovered the 'validate and repair' option under the turbine downloader utility, ran that, and after checking the whole 5GB download it started re-downloading from 2.8 GB onwards. When it finished, it then loaded all the way in, first time. I haven't tried it since, will give it a few days and post another update here if this seems to have permanently resolved the issue.

Update: Nope. Still crashed when I went back in this evening.

One more try, then its a complete uninstall and download from fresh. My Download limit for this month is, I suspect, now b0rked.

I get to the character selection screen. Choose the character and then click Enter. It goes to the Welcome to Eberron screen says its loading but the blue progress never appears and after approx 2 mins I get a Game Error saying that "connection to server has been lost"

Is this what people are experiencing as well? It is doing the same thing on my sons computer as well.

Edit: This has been going on for approx 24 hrs now. Its the same thing each time. I have made sure I have the latest Direct X, video and audio drivers. Have done the repair of the game and uninstalled and reinstalled it as well. Same problem.

Ok here is an update. I was able to log in 1 time in about 50 tries last night, but as soon as I tried to leave the Inn it gave me the same error I had been getting. I have not been able to make it back into the game since.

My son took his laptop to my parents house and was able to connect via their wireless network. But can not connect to our wireless network (both networks have the same Cable modem and Router).

Is anyone else having this problem?

Edit: Also I am able to play LotRO with no problems. And read thru the article and did everything for my Firewall etc.

Edit: Also as background I have been playing with zero problems for the last 6 weeks up thru 3 pm CST 11/7/09. But as of 1030 pm CST 11/7/09 I have had this problem and been unable to connect except 1 time which then crashed with the same error when I left the inn.

Update from me too: after a complete reinstall, and new nvidia drivers this week, and a new motherboard & processor cos they died two weeks ago... the problem still occurs. It has to be the GFX card. Using a 1GB DDR2 Nvidia 9800GT, fwiw.

Edit: when I say 'has' to be, there is one other possibility. My C drive is only 15GB, and has only 2GB left. DDO is installed on another, 300GB drive. If when you run DDO it tries to use large parts of the drive that has the Operating System on it, that could be causing the problem. I've been through and freed up everything I can (which is why there's no 2GB not 1.2GB free), but no joy.

Default I am having the same issue..

My system will load past the updates .. examining game data etc .. I am good to the character select screen and when I select "Enter" the world loading screen displays "Loading .. please wait" .. it sits there and no progress is being shown in the progress bar. After about 3 or so minutes the game client will quit stating "Connection to server is lost". I have followed all the suggestions in the DDO forums to try to correct this issue .. updating chipset software .. gfx drivers .. firewall rules to allow dndclient in and out plus all turbine allowances and disabling firewall altogether. I have also followed the tech folks suggestion for disabling start up items etc for a "clean boot" start. I have contacted the ISP quizzing them about UDP allowances and port forwarding with them stating that they are not managing any of this data. Of course when I mentioned UDP I was faced with silence for a few seconds lol.

Still having the exact same issue after the character select screen. The only variable (that I am aware of) is the ISP since I cannot affect them. Note: the ISP I am set up with utilizes wireless towers for providing its service to client. I will be testing my dtop with a land line provider this weekend to test that angle.

I am currently using W7 Home Premium 64 bit OS .. not concerned a whole bunch with hardward config outside of my GTS 250 gfx card.

Anyway, I signed up with VIP membership and have been excited to enter this game realm with my enthusiasm being squashed. If anyone has a solution for this issue please share it

well new poster same issue. I was fine playing in the village till I logged out then the game started crashing on the intro movie so I disabled it. then I go to bed last night while the full game finishes dling, you can only run the same dungeons so many times before they get borring. So I get up this morning and see "FELL GAME DOWNLOAD COMPLETE" crank it up, log in, and wait for caracter select to come up. so I choose my character, lvl 2 Barbarian/lvl 1 bard, push enter and the load screen pops up..........CRASH!!!!!!!!!!! no error code, no explaination, just the standard "would you like to send a report telling Microsuck there was an issue.

Has anyone figured out how to stop this error?

    Default windows7 (64bit) 8GRAM 8800GT

This worked for me, I changed my compatibility setting and it stopped crashing.

I selected on: Turbineluancher, TurbineInvoker, TurbineElevator, dndlauncher, dndclient.

    -Disable visual themes
    -Disable desktop composition
-Disable desplay scaling on high DPI settings.

To find all this stuff. I right clicked on the shortcut. Selected properties. Go to File Location. Then Right Click and go to properties on each icon. Selected Compatibility Tab.

Sorry I was too lazy to narrow down settings and applications.
