    Default Negative energy absorption

when it is useful? could anyone suggest any quest that there are mob/boss that cast any spell (such as high damage inflict damage) that Negative Energy Absorption would help significantly?

Quells, as they have both Greater Dispel Magic and Harm.

quite a few clerical casters cast inflict spells, and the giant skele clerics in the subterrane for one love to cast harms, as do quells

harm's deal 75-100 neg energy damage even on a successful save, so it can be handy in those areas, especially since the main plae people mayt get the absorption is on an item that provides two other benefits for which it is usually actually used (thoughtful remembrance)

Neg energy touch is when they do an attack that also drains a level. And yes, it gets blocked by neg energy absorption. However, it doesn't block evil, true evil, or other such damage. Just negative spells.

Whisperdoom throws Horrid Wiltings at you, which do 80+ of negative damage.

Arcane skeleton damage aura is all negative.

Horrid wilting does untyped damage, like disintegrate; it isn't negative, only inflict/harm spells do negative damage, and the arcane skele aura casts inflict minor wounds.

Now that the damage icons display next to numbers over your head, there's no excuse for confusing damage types on spells like horrid wilting, which clearly have the untyped icon (an orange blob) and not the down-pointing arrow of a negative spell.

    lol Junts roleplaying a parent.

So for me, the most nuisence negative energy drain is the beholder giving me neg levels. With the new set-item necklaces, particualarly the Kensei, switching over to silver flame isn't so practical. What alternatives are out there to replace the silver flame vs beholders level drain?

Just switch when fighting beholders... Not like you need your kensai bonuses when fighting beholders anyway...

It is like going to a museum and bragging about how fast you made it through. Or bragging about how fast you finished a good steak.

The situation is that once you take off the Kensei necklace once, you can't put it back on... or it will drain 2 Action boosts.

You see, putting on a Kensei necklace gives you +0 boosts, but taking it off deducts -2 boosts. If you're wearing it when you rest you gain +2 more than you normally would.

So the FIRST time you take off the Kensei necklace, you simply lose the boosts it had provided, and the outcome is neutral; wearing it gave you no benefit (unless you had managed to use all those boosts before reaching the beholder, which is unlikely). But if you put the Kensei back on after the beholder, and then later find another energy drain situation? Taking it off again sucks away your action boosts.

Well, negative is what it USED to do. I remember specifically when the quest was first put in, and we ran into Whisperdoom.

As for the icons, I turned them off. They're annoying.
