The "Let the Lemmings Die phrase that is.

My opinion of the follow command?

It's ****y. This isn't Staples. At some point you need to draw the line at the easy button.

    *Edit*

REALLY? Po/oP is filtered? Are you ****ing kidding me??!!

There is already a way to “follow” in DDO. Let the person that wants to “follow” run ahead of the group and get killed, pick up their stone and they will “follow” you where ever you go.

If they add this command, yes. Anyone who uses it deserves the grief, I play my char, you play yours. And as you can tell by the other responses in the thread, I'm not alone.

Besides, it won't be griefing, it will be an "accident"...its not my fault that his follow resulted in his death, I'm watching where I'm going, not where he's going.

I kill enough hirelings because they like to semi-mindlessly follow me everywhere (especially sacrificing them to beholders ), I don't need to add actual players into that category too.

You know, I've always been against this suggestion, but now I see how I can have fun with it...just imagine the guy's surprise when he /follows me so he can go stuff a turkey or something, then comes back to find himself at the bottom of a lava pit

Exactly... if Follow ever gets implemented it won't be my Monk's fault I hopped up onto a box and did an Abundant Step to leap over some terrain feature you could never navigate(or the heads of half a dozen Ogres). Wow... just think if there is deep lava in the quest. Gosh... people who follow and run slower might just fall into those pools as I spiral up the ramps since they will attempt to take the shortest route to follow me.

The ledges they'll just fall off of. really great for those lacking FF on.

The hilarity of greifing all because a player is too darn lazy to actually run the less than 5 minutes from point A to point B themself.

    Count me in!!

Need explorers?? AFK 45 min while you do all the work, I'll just "follow".

Need the stone from Sleeping Dust?? AFK half hour, I'll just grab that last chest, thx.

You don't really need me to beat on that portal do you? I'll just "follow" so I can stay healed, be back in 10, thx.

Can't find your a$$ with both hands?? That's ok, you can just "follow" me ... !

The "Easy Button" is already outta hand, IMO. What makes this game great is that it's NOT EASY! (or atleast it wasn't )

I say no /follow. As many have already said, its just an easy button for anyone who is too lazy to learn quests for themselves. It is not hard to run a quest a few times and figure out how it works and where you go.

On the other hand, I do agree that it would be great fun to watch people /follow my new favored soul on a jump across deep lava .

Not an accident if you do it on purpose as you seem to be saying. You should be reported and disciplined if you get caught doing this on purpose.

I would imagine people that would use it though would be following a boxed toon. If I have needed to afk, I always ask and almost always no one minds me using follow on them, why are y'all so violently opposed to it?

"/follow" is for games with vast open spaces and raids you can run with macros. We're opposed (violently?) because the idea goes so clearly against the D&D ethic. If you really have friends who don't mind you being afk while they do the work for you, they wont mind waiting while you run to catch up.

If you paid any attention to the rest of the thread you will see it will be IMPOSSIBLE to tell what is griefing and what is an accident. I'm guessing you are pretty new to the game or you would know that the pathing on summons, charmed mobs and hirelings is so bad that they often follow you to their death, even when thats not want you want for them. Anyone on follow would suffer a similar fate. Even if we weren't trying to grief you, odds are you would die a lot.

Personally I think using follow is griefing. Those afk on follow are just lazy people abusing the people doing the work in the quest.

Lorien, I hate it when you make sense. It makes it impossible to give out rep!

Yeah, no to /follow. I'll survive what the follower can't and, well, I guess carrying soul stones counts for /follow?

    Interesting you say this.
I have noticed in PUG's recently few people tend to die far enough in to make rez out silly but still far enough from shrine. Some of them go AFK while we fight to the shrine.
Once 2 of the party [low level quest] decided to rush the mob and die. This was right before the boss fight. I carried the stones to the shrine dropped the stones and they did not rez until after the boss was dead.

So yeah... the death soul stone is a Follow command of sorts... I just cannot prevent them from getting the xp for being lazy!
I think I will not be picking up soul stones now...

    /follow + auto-attack + auto-targeting = BORING!

I would rather play the game myself vs watching my PC play the game for me.
