    Default Transnational Interviews

    Hi,

I am a college student in the “Games for the Web” course at Trinity University.

    http://www.trinity.edu/adelwich/transnational/

My classmates and I have selected DDO as our primary platform because we're very interested in the phenomenon of transnational play. What happens when players from different cultures and nationalities interact with one another in these virtual spaces?

Last week, we fanned out across the different DDO servers. A few of us have created new characters on the Sarlona server. We are interested in talking with people from other countries about their thoughts on transnational gaming. If you are available to chat, please contact our team at: games.sarlona@gmail.com.

One of us will write back soon. Thank you in advance for your time and for allowing us to be part of your community. We are committed to behaving as responsible, ethical and respectful scholars. We understand that the MMORPG community has been surveyed to death during the past several years, and promise that we will not waste your time with "hit and run" research. We are approaching this project in the spirit of collaborative, participatory research, and will be publicly sharing our findings and thoughts on the course web site.

This course is being taught by Professor Aaron Delwiche in the Department of Communication. If you have any concerns about this class, please feel free to contact him via e-mail (adelwich@trinity.edu) or telephone (210/999-8153).

    Hi,

Just wanted to thank everyone who has taken time to share their ideas about transnational gaming. Our project has now entered the next phase, and we have launched a public web page that will eventually be used to share all of our raw data with the community.

In their most recent episode, DDOcast (the podcast for the DDO community) profiled the Worldplay Project.

We have created an open-ended space where people can share their thoughts and suggestions about transnational play. So far, the questions have been translated into Chinese, English, German, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, and Vietnamese. If you are a member of a guild that includes players speaking any of these languages, we would be grateful if you could share the link to the Worldplay site.

Last but not least, we realize that there are problems with "hit and run surveys" in the MMORPG community. You can learn more about our research framework by visiting the explanation of methodology on our public site, and you can also see evidence of our follow-through by examining copies of papers generated in previous versions of this course.

DDO players have been extraordinarily helpful throughout this project. Thank you so much for your support.

I had submited a survey for you with my mother language-Chinese.
I don't know if you can understand what I wrote exactly.
Anyhow, I left my email address, so anything that I can do to help, you can just email me.
