RPG's you once loved, and still do.
Almost everyone is talking about Crpg's (Computer Role Playing Games). I saw this thread title and immediately came up with

    Basic D&D
Top Secret (and Top Secret SI)
    Gamma World
    MERP (Middle Earth Role Playing)
WarHammer (original big AS! hard cover book, not WH 40k)
    BattleTech, CityTech and AeroTech
    Marvel Super Heroes
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles & Other Strangeness
    ElfQuest

Those are "real" RPG's, that I once loved and still do. As for CRPG's

    Bard's Tale
    Pool Of Radiance
    Wizardry
    Might & Magic
    Diablo

Wow, it took three pages before Diablo came up. I'm kindof surprised. That and Diablo II. Makes me excited for Diablo III...

NES - While Final Fantasy is on the list, Street Fighter 2010 was pretty sick.

Sega - Phantasy Star IV and Shining Force I and II

SNES - Ogre Battle March of the Black Queen, Chrono Trigger, Breath of Fire I and II

PSX - Xenogears was pretty awesome

Wasteland - The spiritual predecessor to Fallout. It's still great fun today despite it's primitive graphics.

Big-ups to Robi for saying Shadowgate....probably the very first RPG I played, other favorites would have to be...Sid Miers Pirates(C64), Pool of Radiance, Death Knights of Krynn, Fallout series besides Tactics.....DDo is currently the one that consumes the most of my interest....
    Thelanis
    Missadventur Soth - Lvl 18 Ranger,Binge Soth - Lvl 18 Cleric,Freebird Soth - Lvl 18 Bard,Sumthing Soth - Lvl 17 Fighter...and others
......Fish and Froobs smell after three days........

    I just saw the thread...

Both of those are awesome! Wish more games would take some pages from their playbook--I'd like to see more RPGs with multiple endings (and multiple ways to end the game), side quests that pertain to individual characters' stories rather than just as paths to new lootz, and I really like timed attacks (one of the few things I enjoyed about FF 8).

Final Fantasy 7 was the first RPG I ever played, and continues to be my favorite. I like 9, 10, 5 and 4 as well.

A lot of Square's games have been good: Xenosaga (ignoring the crappy bit near the end where you just read through a junk of story), Parasite Eve...

Kingdom Hearts finally satisfied (sort of) my desire to really fight Sephiroth in all of his badass glory, though I was really disappointed that Mickey Mouse was not the main character or the Disney-Square team-up.

Lunar Silver Star Story Complete was awesome! Totally love the characters, story and cutscenes. And it has some of the best jokes of any game I've played.

And though it plays differently, and therefore doesn't as feal as RPGish, Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

So many RPGs on this list that I've never tried, and so many that I tried and disliked.

Chrono Cross, was kind of interesting, but I felt like they left some of the coolest parts of Chrono Trigger by the wayside: 42 characters and only 7 double-techs and 3 triple. Few of the characters had any real story of their own, or personality.

Not a big fan of FF 6. Everyone seems to either go for 6 or 7. Six just had so many characters, most of whom were totally lifeless. And then they force you to play a dozen of them at the end when you have to split up--that killed it for me. It remains to this day one of the few games I've never gone back to complete. Oh, and I can't recall, but did a bunch of characters die and come back several times in 6? Or was that 4? Or both? I hated that.

Does NWN play like Baldur's Gate? I played some of BG II, and was kinda liking it, though it wasn't gripping me--my fault there mostly.

Console RPG's were my thing for a few years.

    NES
    Dragonwarrior 1

    SEGA
    Shining Force 1 & 2

    SNES
    FF3 (US)
    Chrono Trigger
    Ogre Battle

    SATURN
    DRAGONFORCE
    Shining Force

    PS1
    FF Tactics
    Vandal Hearts

    GBA
    Golden Sun 1 & 2
    FF Tactics

Haven't touched a console in a few years, other than using an old PS2 for DVD player.

If this is true, I'll finally have to buy a DS. Dammit. /google

Another thing that I really liked about Golden Sun was the puzzle with the psynergy which made the out-of-combat a little more interesting than most RPGs I have played. Also, the characters were very likable even if not the most original. The fact that you could port your characters from the first game to the second one or play against your friends was also pretty nice.

By the way, another one that I liked quite a bit was Paper Mario. It was original, lighthearted and had a simplistic but fun combat system.

I also really liked the original Bard's Tale. That 10' x 10' room with 396 Berzerkers (4 groups of 99) in it was awesome!

    Icewind Dale 1 & 2

    All the Baldurs gate Series...

I'm 39 years old and have played so many RPG's all the way back to the very first small box release of Dungeons and Dragons..

You've mentioned so many Electronic games many of which I've played its totally my favorite Genre.... but I want to add some of my favorite PnP RPG's (besides all the D&D editions of course) in no order just as my slowly addling brain remembers them:

~ Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and other Strangeness - My Mutant Wolverine kicked butt! (way before the movies or cartoon ever came out)
~ Shadowrun - Both PnP and the Nintendo version (still have both)
~ Rolemaster series - Focued more on Middle Earth Role Platying
~ Boot Hill - My Gunfighter has Greased lightning speed
~ Ninjas and Super Spies - Read the name.. nuff said
~ Heroes Unlimited ~ who doesn't dream of flying arond in spandex now and then?
~ GURPS - Omg I have 30 GURPS books at least
~ Traveller - The orginal pre GURP Steve Jackson version
~ DC Heroes Games - Not my favorite but brings back memories of hooking up with Wonder Woman
~ Robin Hood ~ Bad game but I looked great in tights!
~ Advanced Recon ~ My Pig man could dual wield M-60's!! Hoo-AH!
~ All game White Wolf: Werewolf, Vampire, Mages, Mummies etc.... Storytelling Novel concept!

Okay.. lost in nostalgia.... can't comment on electronic games in this post... cuz I'm trying to remember all the PnP games I've played ~ including one where your "character" was a virus with stats and such and you gained XP based on virulence of your contagion.. sigh oh the days..
