Last night a PUG (3 paladins, a wizard, a TWF ranger, and a hireling cleric) attempted the Bloody Crypt, the last dungeon in the first part of the Necropolis. The dungeon is supposed to be appropriate for level 6, and ours was mixed between 6 and 8.
We made it through all the way without challenge until Brother Salasso. This vampire was a major pain. We got his heart first to make him attackable, but then when we went to beat him down his regen was through the roof. The paladins went through their smites and did a good amount of damage, but at that point he started dominating people (effectively putting them out of the fight) and we were done. We tried to zerg him from the rez shrine right outside his room but this didn't work.
What did we miss? As one of the paladins, I tried every thing I could think of. I used smite of course, and it helped. I tried Lay on Hands against him, and it did fine damage too, but not enough to kill him. I used my longsword of frost, my mace of force, my silver dagger, my quarterstaff of pure good, my light pick of lesser undead bane, and my greataxe of flame. None of the weapons hit very often and all but the dagger (silver I know) got some form of damage reduction. I have +15 attack with longswords, although only +13 with the mace/pick, but still, I should have been able to hit him?
I don't think anybody else had a silver weapon, so maybe that was the problem? Or was there something else we missed?
