Ranger Build

I am makeing a Elven Ranged Ranger. Maxing dex to 20 10 str 10 con and 14 wis. Was wondering if anyone has a good ranged build to use. I plan on doing ranger to 20 and not dual classing. I am also doing 28 point build with a dex and con +1 tome i found on my main.

If you are going to follow through with this, I recommend droping the dex down and adding a lot of strength. Rangers get a bow strength feat which adds damage for your strength bonus. towards end game, your + to hit will be huge and it becomes hard to miss actually. The strength will also help greatly when you are in melee mode (which will be often). I also recommend not putting any points into wisdom, as you can easily get that up to casting level without difficulty. Put the extra points into constitution. Going elf is not a bad choice for ranged. You can get the Arcane Archer PrE and it will help the ranged fun.

Whats stats and feats you suggest taking. I want to do more ranged dmg than melee damage since i enjoy the bow more. I have seen pure dex rangers and seen them have real high kills even with 10 base str. I have a friend doing same stats as mine and he got to 20 fast.

You are not going to outdamage a melee. It simply isn't feasible.

I made one a while back while getting ready for mod 9, but parked it. I'll check it and get back to you. Doing a search on the forums for ranged rangers will offer some results as well.

My goal is not to out damage anyone. My goal is to do good dmg from ranged to help take down everything when needed. I will still do TWF when it is needed. I plan on taking Finesse and advancing twf but also taking point blank shot, precise shot, toughness and whatever else i can to increase ranged attacks. At 12 i will be useing vorpal weapons untill i can get green steel weapons. My ranger i have planned is support and not front line fighting. Just need some ideas on what all feats i should take.

If I were trying to build a good ranged character it would be an Elf (Arcane Archer enhancement) with 13 levels of Rogue (sneak attack damage to ranged if > 30 feet), 1 level of Ranger (Bow strength), and 6 levels of Fighter (Fighter Kensai 1 and Weapon Specialization).

As long as you can sneak attack the target you'll do far more damage with the above spread than with a Ranger. Rangers get the best feats for ranged for free (but you can still pick them out), have access to Deepwood Sniper and Arcane Archer enhancements (but you can get most of the Arcane Archer chain with an Elf), and have a +25% speed boost to ranged (You can use Rogue haste boosts to actually be faster for short periods of time - like when it counts during a boss fight).

You miss out on the free TWF chain, and you also miss goodies like Favored Enemy (well, okay, you get one crummy one if you grab Ranger level one) and some nifty spells, but if you want to make a decent ranged character the above build will beat a Ranger almost all of the time.

I been working on a ranged build and really enjoy it. I can also do real nice dmg with both bow and melee. I may be squishy but i am ussually last to drop in any fight. Thanks for the info.
