black screen while going from area to area?

im new to ddo so im not too familiar with the game so please bare with me lol. in the first area i had no issues with this but once i took the ship to the harbor i got a black screen and the game freezes up. so i hit the alt tab and then run task manager. ddo is unresponsive. i waited a while (with and without leaing the window to see if it just needs to refresh but still nothing) when i get the black screen i can hear my avatar walking or if i click i hear the attacks. also i can see the cursor and the interactive changes in it. im running vista 32 sp2. i have an nvida 8200M G graphics (up to date drivers i think) 3 gigs of ram and an amd turion 2ghz processor. also im running off a wireless card if that would make a difference?
i think the issue is getting worse since i got a 2nd blue screen of death when i try to resurrect
