    Exclamation No DDO desktop icon

When I download DDO there is never an option I can find to start the game after shutting it off. All I can ever seem to do to get it to run again is to reinstall it. My computer runs Windows Vista, and the game run beautifully. Up to the point when I either shut it down completely, or restart the computer.

Is there some way to create a shortcut for the game to start it without reinstalling?

It creates a shortcut in your games folder. Just hit the start button, and type games in the start button search bar, you'll see it. You can drag the icon from there to your desktop to create a shortcut.

    Thumbs up

    Found it, thanks a million!

I hated to reinstall the game every time I wanted to play it.

I never got it to run from the icon in the Games folder. What I did was to open my computer then navigate to Program Files > Turbine > DDO Unlimited (note: this is the default location; if you run x64, it's in Program Files (x86) > Turbine > DDO Unlimited) then created a shortcut to dndlauncher.exe and put the shortcut on the desktop.

IIRC, the latest patch release notes showed that Turbine was aware of this.

Only small correction I'd make here is that on Vista/Win7 with UAC (User Account Control) you want to use TurbineInvoker.exe not TurbineLauncher.

Also sometimes you can run the "TurbineRegisterGDF.exe" file (right-click > run as admin) thats in the same folder as invoker/launche since one of the "jobs" that file does is to create that icon in "Games", sometimes if the icon isn't created right and doesn't launch the game running the GDF recreates a new working icon.

So... dndlauncher calls TurbineLauncher? What's the difference between the TurbineLauncher and TurbineInvoker? You know, just in case you wanted to put that info out there (hint hint ). I notice each has it's own config file (which is slightly different). Maybe TurbineLauncher is for the first run then you're supposed to use Invoker after that as the appsettings have already been written [/conjecture]?

Personally, I've used the above method on two different machines, both Vista, both with UAC on. But, if I'm giving out bad / not correct info, I'd like to know so I can correct myself.

Turbineinvoker.exe just calls Turbinelauncher on UAC systems as part of Vista compatibility, and it basically just handles interaction with UAC so theres no need for "Run as Administrator" (though using any kind of compatibility mode can sometimes interfere with this, so that is usually the only time issues come up).

As to dndlauncher it was left in for patching compatibility all it really does is call "Turbinelauncher.exe" to open. Hope that clears it up a bit

Click the start button, and type "Dungeons" in the little search bar located at the bottom of the start menu. It will display the game shortcut and the folder.
