Default vista 64bit sp2 initilization problem. HELP!

    Hello all,

I just got a new computer running Vista home premium 64 bit. I have had it for a few days now and one of the first things i installed was DDO. It was running fine for a few days.

I then did a windows update which downloaded sp2 and I also installed norton internet security and updated drivers for my nvidia 260 graphics card.

Since then, it always hangs up right before updating and I get an "Update Initialization Error" . Details say "System.Exception: Unknown error (0xc0000005) (0xC0000005)" with an error code of 40001.

I have shut off all uac function in vista, i have tried running invoker, dnd/turbine launchers as admininstrators, i have re-installed ddo twice. I dndclient, invoker and launchers as "allowed" in norton.

Still, every time i go to launch the game, it hangs up in the same spot with the same message.

    HELP!!

    thanks in advance

Just googled your issue, it looks like some people suggest that your firewall could be at fault. Check your Norton Internet Security settings and see if theres a list of programs that are allowed access. If there is, add DDO's .exe file to the list.

My personal suggestion would be to enable Windows built-in firewall (and router hardware firewall if there is one), and temporarily uninstall Norton to see if this changes anything.
On a personal side note, I never let Norton anywhere near my pc as their software causes more problems than they solve.

Another forum suggests resetting the Windows Winsock file:

    1) Click Start , type cmd in the Start Search text box, and then press ENTER.
    2) Type the following command, and then press ENTER:
    3) netsh winsock reset
    4) Restart the computer.

when you run CMD, left click on it and run it as admin.
