As a new player and transfer from another server, I am curious as to why Smokey's guild is getting backlash from almost everyone here.

Is it because he spams recruitment messages in Korthos?

Yes.

It is considered rude to do that,and pushy, and it makes it hard for anyone tto help new players.

I'll admit that I joined the game around the time the guild was become less widespread/falling apart, but as far as I can tell, the backlash comes from the previous reputation. The guild, from what I had heard at the time, would recruit anyone and everyone. It had no real application or anything like that. As a result, many, many bad apples got into the guild. They weren't all bad -- there were actually some pretty nice people in it. But the bad seemed to outweigh the good.

As for how the guild is doing now that it's been recreated, I don't know. Though the spamming of the Thelanis forum, and apparently Korthos (I haven't been online in awhile, so I have no idea on that), might be an indication that nothing has really changed. Thus, people are using the old reputation as the current one. . .

Then again, that's just my guess. I'm not going to say anything good or bad about the guild. I'm just taking a stab, here, at where the backlash may be coming from.

I've have been the 12th player in many different guild run Raids. All sorts of guilds. Small and Large. Good and Bad.

One thing I have noticed, is that some of the larger guilds seem like they don't even know eeryone in thier own guild. It is as if they are just a subset of PUGville, still living within the borders of PUGville, but with a guild tag.

I cannot say anything direct about the guild in question. Don't know a single thing about them. If you are however looking for a guild that has a lot of members, there are a few out there. Sure, you wont' know anyone, and probably will feel very close to being in a PUG, but you will have that cool guild tag. I guess that is something.

ah I see. Kinda figured it out when I was on my Level 2 Barb alt in korthos, and saw the General chat being peppered by Smokey guild recruitment messages.

Back in the day if you were unguilded their officers would blind invite you to their guild. This happened to me a few times and wasn't really happy about it

See, the spamming in Korthos is just like when it first started years back. You would make a new character, log into the game and before you made it to Euphonia you had a guild invite.

Lots of payers in the guild, no direction, no knowledge of the game, led to many many bad pugs with them. End result - they got blacklisted.

Now they are back and repeating the same thing.

Me, I don't really care one way or another, it was for some GREAT drama back then so got to love the return. Just grab some popcorn and sit back.

I am The leader of Smokey's Guild..well you know that already.

I can say anything to make it seem I'm the best guild out there.
As for one, I hate it when people say I spam you off the boat.

I have limited my guild post every 5 min per DDO Rules.
I do let anyone into my guild because its not about the name,

Its about fellowship, Fun and a group of guildies that want to have a good time.
I do have alot of people in my guild, And yes we have meetings, events, and I love it.

I see alot of other guilds bashing me and I still love them no matter how rude they can be.We at Smokey's Guild have 3 other guilds that have asked me if we can have a truths.

When I first started Smokey's back in 2006. We did have a blind invite camp.
That was the past. I now have people asking me to join all the time.

So yes your right, it does need to have order. I came up with the officer elite.
They will bring order without being a boss. Cause being in a guild should be fun not Boot camp.

I Know I have posted my guild ad on General chat and was told I have to limit it to every 5 min. but I thought that way was alot better then bling invite. Alot of people don't know there is a forum on DDO. I wished they had a recruting channel for all guilds to post there guild. They have a trade channel?

So I am limiting my guild invite ads in Rules of DDO. I just want a guild thats all. Big or Small its the fellowship that counts.

As far as helping people in there quest... We Do. We have never turned our back on our fellow guild members. I'm 11th level and will find a party for a lower new player.

If you want to know more about a guild your not part of. Please don't make or say anything before you know how our guild runs.

Well they have a trade channel. I feel they should have a guild channel.
The help monitor ((DM)) in game told me its not spam if it is posted every 5 min.
And like I said before, some people that are new don't know about guilds or this forum.
Gets the word out about mine. Trust me they want to join...

And why do players like you pass judgement on how people play.
Even if they stink and I think at one time we all stunk, So who are you to
tell them they don't have the right for fellowship or to be in a guild?

You agree with me on the bossy guild part but you cross your own words
saying that bad players don't belong in guilds.
They can improve and when they do how much more they will be thankful your guild accepted them.

But thats your option not mine. I think anyone has the right to play D&D.
Even when I played paper style. I never said my little brother couldn't play.

And to update you, every 5min isn't bad.
If you have a question thats 5 min long to answer you my friend need to do things on your own.

My guess is that this will change once the new people arent so "new" anymore and they realize how you've given your guild a bad name. I really hope they realize soon..for their sake...

This answers a question I was asking myself yesterday..trying to understand how someone can be so clueless as to how annoying they were. My firs thought was..he has to be a kid? Not that all kids are annoying but it would be a bit more excusable. I cannot believe that you are a adult
