Default Monk Philosopys: What do they DO? Please Help!

Okay, so I decided this morning I wanted a monk to play around on.

So made one, took it up to Lv 3, doing a custom build of course. So when It came time to pick my feats for Lv 3 I saw two little somethings called

    Philosopy: Path of Harmonious Balance
    Philosopy: Path of Inevitable Dominion

So I look at the descriptions thinking Hey these look like they could be cool.

descriptions are SO vague and generic
"You have chosen to follow the path of light. You seek to be at harmony with the world, and your training will reflect your philosophy."
    or
"You have chosen to follow the path of darkness. You seek to dominate the world, and your training will reflect your philosophy."

So I learned absolutly nothing about these paths. So for the past hour Ive been ripping my hair out trying to find SPECIFIC information about these feats.
    What do they do?
What does taking them mean for my monk?
and Why Should I care about taking them?

because of the SEVERE lack of information provided in their description I cant take them, because it looks like they do NOTHING.

So someone PLEASE for the love of my sanity and anyone else who's scratched their head at this. Please tell me in detail every thing about those two paths.
What do they do for me? How do they affect my character? are they worth taking? Do they open up new abilities? if so what are these abilities? Do they make me stronger in areas and/or weaker in others?

Basically WHAT DO THEY DO? I want names of moves, feats, enhancments, whatever they let me get that I wouldnt otherwise be able to have, modifiers if any they provide. or are they as useless as their description is vague and uninformative?

Each path unlocks either fists of light, or fists of darkness. These are positive or negative attacks that are used in certain combinations for finishing moves. The finishing moves are described at the bottom of the monk class section in the compendium:

I've compared positive vs. negative in this thread:
