Default Seeking some sort of noob equipment leveling guide, please.

    Hi there -

Recently picked up the game and, while I'm enjoying just roaming around and exploring randomly, I was also wondering if there was any sort of rough leveling guide, for monks in particular. I stumbled on to a comment regarding "black widow bracers" and a quick mmodb lookup made me wonder if there were other items to shoot for while leveling up to 20.

Default anyone notice a distinct lack of monk gear there

as I look through that list I am disappointed with the lack of monk gear. guess it comes from being added to the game late.

but it still sucks. Heck even with running lvl 5 quests I am sill getting offered normal handwraps for completion rewards. It just seems silly.

The purpose of not much monk specific gear is that the monk isnt supposed to be a swiss army knife. Im running a level 4 monk right now, and between the shadow star I picked up in the ah for a sweet deal, a relatively insignificant docent, a pair of kamas (+1 lesser lizard bane), and +1 handwraps, there isnt really much else. You really dont want much else, otherwise you become uncentered, and lose ki, and your monk special abilities. I do have some other minor goodies like boots, gloves etc, but mostly for stat boost purposes. Give it a go for a while. I have really come to enjoy playing the monk primarily due to his ability to adapt to almost any situation instantaneously. From ww, to catacombs, I havent found a situation yet that my monk hasnt been able to handle with style and flair.

Yes, much of the monks power lies in the actual feats and abilities they posess naturally and thru enhancements. Gear of course is important too, but if ur looking to keep up the damage, learn to spam those ki strikes.

Older thread/post, but still has a slew of important gear listed there.
The newer gear for mod 9 seem to be the weeping handwraps (The Captive quest) and the nicked kamas (Sharn Syndicate series) for low levels, and the ultra-high level rings (but by that point you should have a good idea of what to get anyways).

    For what it's worth, here's a quick level 1 to 6'ish listing:
    Waterworks - Black Widow Bracers
STK - Trapblast Goggles, Shadow Star
Tangleroot - dex, str, con equipment pieces (all are +3, but the dex piece will conflict with the black widow bracers slot). Also get the Flesh Render visor.
    CC - Pillar of Light
    Captives - Weeping Handwraps
    Sharn - nicked Kamas
Delera's - voice of the master

Keep an eye out for +dex, str, con, and wis gear improvements at all times, as well as better weapons (either handwraps, kamas, or staves, whichever you tend to use). I also like to pile on fortification as early as possible, so watch for moderate fort. robes and such by level 6 or 8, or see if you can find a robe of invulnerability (DR 5/-) which is also quite nice, especially against those pesky archers.

    That's about it.

Definately try and find a pair of holy handwraps, in the AH or brokers. They work on probably 80% of the mobs in game, then just use flaming burst or something on the rest.
