The other thing is, I don't remember asking as many questions as the new players seem to be. In general, my questions were "how do I get to the quest?" and "do I have a special assignment or am I just killing things?".

I think perhaps part of the reason is that we only had 10 levels back then, and a lot less content. There were only two or so places outside of the city/houses: 3BC and TR. No PrEs... hell, only 4 enhancements at a time, remember? Apparently the game has become much more complicated, but since we grew with it, it never seemed like a big mystery.

The market chat is nothing compared to Korthos and the Harbor with Korthos being the worst. By the time it gets to the marketplace players have been filtered out a bit.

As to difficulty I think it's more a case of a generation of people who are used to being spoonfed everything. I make note of players who ask if certain features exist like a map, they are trying to find their own way around. Others spam general chat repeatedly asking over and over where something is yet when told how to use a map and that it will be marked there still repeatedly spam the same question and get rather upset at me for not just giving them the answer.

but yeah tricking new players into doing /death is not funny...especially if they have just made it to the harbor and havent bound any where yet and have to trek back from korthos.. besides the item damage if it isn't done in a tavern..

BTW whereas /death is decidedly unfunny in regards to new players...

Fishing for N00Bs is fun! Get an old Birthday Cake with a Djinni still there...call it up and watch them dance when they talk to it!

I must confess it wasn't my idea to begin with, but I had such fun with it I needed to make it more public.

I only play practical jokes on guildies... be least that way is accepted as such rather then some stranger being mean... although I've not done so in quite some time.

I always liked the genie trick - had used it once on a newbie guildie... stating that the quest giver summoned him and you must talk to him now to advance the quest.

The game has expanded and be more complex... not to mention when we were newbie, we were all newbie... should you fire up a newbie question would be a newbie answer in return. The chat back then was more attune socializing then it be querey and frustration.

Don't worry Emili after three husbands I have a good idea just how much sugar to apply before it becomes a problem

Thanks for the kind words btw from all of you. You've help restore my faith in DDO's community. I did however remove general/advice and trades from my main window for now. As some of you know it is real hard for me not to answer a question so removing them from incoming was a must for me. (See Arkat I'm trying real hard )

I spent last night playing with a few guildies and just having a blast. It reminded me why I like this game in the first place. I will be doing the same this evening although I may run to Cannith for a few hours first and do some mindless killing. It has helped and I will probably be back to answering questions and helping out in a few more days.

If my opening post offended anyone.. well too bad. It wasn't meant to but I am not appologizing for it either. I needed to vent so venting is what I did. I was angry, frustrated and just wanted to scream at the world. So the mail can stop please and do not expect any reply to mouthy in game messages. I may however screenshot them to add to my growing IDIOT file.

Hey Strakeln I may just have to go through my IDIOT file and send you the best of the bunch. I'm sure you will put them to good use

    Thanks all.

I am new to this game, but i always do my own research on websites if I have a question instead of saying it in general or advice chat. I feel like it is more of an accomplishment or rewarding when I have a question about something in a game and look it up and go "oh, so thats how you do it" or something like that. And when choosing a class I would look it up as well and see how to play it so I wont make as many noob mistakes.

I always love checking out new MMO's, F2P, P2P and B2P, and learn how to play them. I consider it a hobby lol (use to play basketball but after messing my back up I turned to MMO's) I think new players need to at least read the manual and learn the basics before playing a game, it will better prepare them and will probably answer the questions they have. I think there are some wiki sites for DDO as well and are good to check out. I am about to download and read over the DDO Manual before I choose a class. I can read that while the game downloads when I get off of work. I look forward in playing this game, i think Turbine did a great job with Lotro so I am sure I will enjoy DDO. Maybe I will see some of you ingame Take care!

I just started playing DDO on Sept. 15th. I've always tried to read up/ learn about w/e game I play and learn from others. So I try to help others also when I can by answering questions in /advice, giving away gear I can't use to those who can etc. I gotta say this game seems to have a much more helpful playerbase than most games I've played but ya the /death comments and people giving advice when they have no clue what they are talking about or just trying to give wrong answers to mess with someone, I don't get it. Why not try to help those asking for it when possible and maybe have a really great player in the future instead of berating them/giving wrong info , trolling them etc. Typing helpful comments takes as much time as typing **** honestly. Why not be helpful? It can only improve the game we are all playing.

I've been trying my best to think "What Would Mythe Do?" when seeing questions pop up in Korthos/Harbor/Marketplace and answer as much as I can. The spamming drives me bonkers whether it's "+1 FP FOR SALE!!!" or "4th lvl wizard LFG!" - my main gripe being that someone will cry for 15 minutes in general chat that they can't find a group and I look on the LFM panel and there's 5 groups in their level range looking for more people. You also have some people who are pretty new to the game who think they're an expert at level 5 and spread so much misinformation in the Advice channel and they act like their johnsons got stomped on when you try to correct them.

You're not gonna be able to change the mean ones - I have found just as many grouchy vets being mean to the new kids as noobs being bossy. Just keep on being Mythe and the good ones will be paying it forward.

P.S. Don't answer the cries that say, "How do I get out of this cavern???" It's more fun to let them figure it out on their own.

Hey there. I am one of the noobs Mythe helped. She gave me some plat and advice to smooth things up in the beggining.

I really apreciate the help she, and all the other players that have helped answering my doubts gave me. I will defenitely try to help back when I can :P

So like everyone else said, take some steam off and come back when you feel like it. There are mean noobs out there, but there are some noobs that need your help and may in th elong run make this game a better place to be.

BTW: Greetings to all of you from Uruguay!

The worst part of the new players is that there are so many who wear their ignorance like a badge. Last week, there was someone in /Advice who was trying to tell people that a melee character will do more damage than a caster.

If you don't know what you're talking about, don't pretend that you do.

Well. I suppose it depends on your perspective. Is the statement that a melee does more damage than a caster incorrect 100% of the time? Nope.

That's why you don't generally see elite shrouds with 3 casters LFMing for more casters

I'm back answering questions again for the last few days. I've decided to limit my time somewhat so I have also been exploring the battlegrounds. That place is really cool. I think I better get a few raids under my belt soon. Hey Aranticus calling in my raid token

To anyone else who has been helping out and getting frustrated a break really does help a lot.

BTW the harbor seems to have calmed down quite a bit and players are not as nasty there anymore. Perhaps they are finally being weeded out.
