    Default Web

    So i made a sorc and im following Asp's handbook pretty much and i just got web, and i dont really get it, i mean is the whole point just to give you time to kill mobs? is it usefull im groups? im confused someone wanna give me some tips/ strats for using it in solo and group play?

    Web is a very handy spell.

    Monsters that fail their save will be trapped and easy pickings for the melee characters in your group.

    Enemy casters can be shut down while they struggle to free themsleves.

    At high level with the Heighten Spell Feat it can be one of the most effect Crowd Control spells for very dangerous monsters.

    It can also make help group monster up for area effect spells like Fireball (which will destroy the web too, so be prepared ) and at higher levels things like Cloudkill.

    Its usually the first 2nd level spell I take. most effective in groups where you have Fighters and such to kill things stuck in your webs, but it can also be very effective in solo play for tangling up monsters so you can run past them or enabling you to deal with a large group by giving time to pick off the non stuck ones first or to group up monsters to save Spellpoints when you throw an Acid Blast in their face.

    You can't do this yet, but you can drop a firewall on the edge of the web and it will hit the monsters caught in it without burning it up.

    thanks for the quick replies, so basicly its something i use to make everyone take less dmg, hit the mobs with web and then its kinda like a free kill then for the fighters to just run in and beat on things. Sounds good to me.

    For solo play it is useful to make things get tangled up so they can't get to you, are in a group for AoE blasting or charming, and for buying yourself free time to do what you wish with your opponents.

    I don't have Web yet, but imagine it takes the place of Hypnosis, with the added advantage of remaining in effect after hitting a trapped mob? Do sorcs usually drop Hypnosis after getting Web?

    Rignt now, hypnosis is indispensable for solo play. Stun the rushing group of mobs, then pick them off with Niacs at my leisure.

    Most players keep Hypnotism for some time after obtaining web, due to the quick casting animation. Two un-heightened hypnotisms is sometimes exponentially better than 1 web, at only 150% the cost (assuming you either are solo, or are in a group where players know how to utilize the spell).

    Web is a great spell, one of the few I like in Aspenor's list. Its also one of the few spells you will use thru your sorcerer career. However, its my personal opinion that CC takes a second seat to offensive capability. Make sure your offensive capability does not suffer in an effort to grab cc (especially if solo play is your goal), or you will be dependent on others for your survival. Everything eventually breaks web, charm or hold and will need to be dealt with.

    The fast casting time makes hypno an extremely handy spell at any level... usefull for things immune to web like elementals
