Black screen on startup

When i start DnD ( I have the low def version , but it did the same thing with the high def and with the TDM version)
(I start it using the DDO ultimate exe)
I get the launcher , enter my UserName and password , select my world , then the game starts ... but the only thing i get is a black screen and nothing else ... ( no sound )
At first i was getting an hourglass ... But now i get the normal windows cursor ....
I updated my Graphic card's driver and since then im getting the normal cursor ...
the programm goes unresponsive after 5-10 seconds ...
I have Windows Xp
Dx9.0
and my computer meets all the requirements ...

I get NO error messages ....
Please can anybody help me out ???
There is SIMILAR issues to mine that i found on the forum , there is None in the online technical help list ,
And i've found nobody with the same problem ...

Welcome to club. There is a large Black screen thread back a page or so. We're still waiting for Turbine to fix the issue.

Didn't work ...
Some say it's something about the sound , others say its with the config file in your document folder ...
i don't know where to look now ...

Edit: follwed the instructions on http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=204606 this solved my problems! =)

Have the same problem.. choose server and then when it changes resolution it goes in to black screen mode and no sound no nothing.

I had a problem where I would go through the first part fine (log in, select server) but when it went to launch the game it would go black (not even go to full screen), no sound, nothing. Then it would quit responding. I noticed a while after that when I went to get the Dxdiag it would give me an error that direct input wasn't responding and if I wanted to continue without it, of course not. So I started looking in other places to see what this error messege meant and it came up that it's pretty common that every once in a while for no known reason that the file will end up corrupted. The best for that would be to get a good copy of the dinput.dll or dinput8.dll (depending on your directx, mine was the dinput8) and replace it. I had to do some working around with the file rights to it to be able to modify it. I hear that xp doesn't have to worry about the rights too much but in vista it's terrible.

Do a dxdiag, and see if it loads all the way (there is a green bar for loading if it doesn't go all the way through to where it disappears there may be a problem with it, mine was the input.. it could be any of the others but if you exit and try again (if there wasn't and error messege, it'll pop up with one that time asking if you want to bypass suchandsuch) There are some great tutorials on how to fix those kind of problems you can find through googleing it for xp, vista and windows 7. Just don't try the registry stuff.. it doesn't help it.

If this is the case, I'll help with giving the info on how to fix it. I'll check back often and see if I can help...

since i just downloaded the first file i found ...

Its a bug in the game not your system, all you can do is sit back and wait for them to fix it.

Also, dont mess round with your directx etc... you could damage something important.

AFAIK, I can't post up a file for you to d/l. But here's the versions and file sizes from my machine:

MS did release a new DX runtime that looks like it updates a few things. You can find that here but I don't have that version on my machine, so YMMV.

download it then when you go to replace it change your orginal dinput8.dll to like "dinput82.dll" or something like that, it'll consider it not there anymore at least that is what I had to do since I couldn't delete it or replace it due to vista file rights. If it lets you change it you are good to go.

I had this problem a while back and got it fixed. I opened the Turbine downloader and on the little down arrow next to DDO I clicked it and chose repair. I had to do it a couple of times but eventually the client started working again.

This was a problem with a corrupt dinput8.dll for me not a bug in the game. I did not damage anything important. I tried reinstalling the game multiple times as well and my directx but it didn't solve the problem because it only recognized that my directx was up to date. The people of DDO can't "Fix" something that isn't in thier software.

Other games dont complain because there isnt an issue.

Other games are also smart enough to install the latest DirectX vs the oldest .net.

Some are like that, though I did have problems with another game (Sacred Angel 2)as well as Ventrillo. It's not just DDO.

when tou get the login window at top right there are 4 diffrent arrows and options close minimize and a couple more pick the one where you can go to options there are tabs not sure witch one right this secon but it will have a check box for reset visual settings click that then ok then log in if it lets you log in go right to options from character select in the options on the first page choose detect optimal settings and it should clear it up worked for me best of luck

I just started playing the game last night, I was downloading the client threw turbine download manager while playing, i notice windows had an update ready to be installed. i exit the game download and install it. by this time its late and im ready to sleep. i shut the computer down and went to sleep. today i wake up and noticed i have had the same problems with the black and blotching freezing screen withg 20 times trying to start it up. i thought about the updates i installed last night. they was an update with netframe ****. i uninstalled that and perfect-o the client started up. i can play now and the download just got done while i was still playing. i hope this may help alot of you with any problems related to this.

I noticed a while after that when I went to get the Dxdiag it would give me an error that direct input wasn't responding and if I wanted to continue without it, of course not. So I started looking in other places to see what this error messege meant and it came up that it's pretty common that every once in a while for no known reason that the file will end up corrupted. The best for that would be to get a good copy of the dinput.dll or dinput8.dll (depending on your directx, mine was the dinput8) and replace it. I had to do some working around with the file rights to it to be able to modify it. I hear that xp doesn't have to worry about the rights too much but in vista it's terrible.

Do a dxdiag, and see if it loads all the way (there is a green bar for loading if it doesn't go all the way through to where it disappears there may be a problem with it, mine was the input.. it could be any of the others but if you exit and try again (if there wasn't and error messege, it'll pop up with one that time asking if you want to bypass suchandsuch) There are some great tutorials on how to fix those kind of problems you can find through googleing it for xp, vista and windows 7. Just don't try the registry stuff.. it doesn't help it.

If this is the case, I'll help with giving the info on how to fix it. I'll check back often and see if I can help...

This is exactly what is happening to me, to the LETTER. Input tab and all. I'm running directx9 and I cannot get this resolved. I would be eternally grateful for any additional assistance.

I uninstalled the .net framework security update that i figured this guy was hinting at, and it worked! Spread the word if it works for you
