    Default Drow Bard new player

Hello as a new player to ddo (i made a fighter to see some of the game and got as far as waterworks before i was bored of just clicking till things died) i have decided to make a character that for me will be more fun play but also be useful ina group, i know bards "can" heal well but i want my focus to be more of a CC Melee than a spellcasting supporter so far i have this build, i unlocked the Drow by buying points and unlockign via the DDO store

    Use Magic Device 8 8

    Level 1 (Bard)
    Feat: (Selected) Extend Spell

My feat planned for lvl 3 is two weapon fighting (rapier and shortsword), this will lower spell failure as no shield and i will use some light armor preferably masterwork (i think its right to lower arcane spell fail) as this also justify the dex needed for feat and also helps my spellcasting.

after two weapon fighting ill be focusing more on making my spells harder to resist so spell focus enchantment and such, i have read alot of posts from players and i know ill need to keep ontop of spellcasting in order to be effective.

going pure bard as i want haggle (extra money) and for my songs to buff the grp very well this will also help my attack bonus, as i progress and have more UMD i aim to use wands and scrolls for self buffs and healing (possibly take some healing spells as lower lvl spells become less useful)

i gather from other posts i have read that later in my characters life i will have to change my weapons from more of a "dps" to stat reducing ect which im happy with i dont want top dmg i want something people are happy to play with and that i am happy playing

is there anything i am greatly missing or have overlooked also is the build going to be as effective as i think it will be?

the way i look at the build is i will sing the party to better attack rate saves ect then when we see a grp of mobs i cc the grp and we pick them off 1 by 1 (poss charm for some extra help) but generally just control how many the grp deals with without me throwing the spells and then sitting back while everyone mops up (HUGE fan of dual wield)

You are on the right track.

Put all level ups into CHA, stay pure, and select Spellsinger as your PrE. Take Heighten as a feat,so your lower level spells stay competitive.
Erzskalde (Warchanter) / Erzassassin (just passing through - ignore me) / Erzsoldat (waiting for TR-time) / Erzschmied (ranged Artificer)

you can use a buckler or mithral shield (even mithral heavy) and only get 5% spell fail rate. granted, it sucks when it fails, but since you dont sound like you are trying to heal the group as a primary healer or relying totally on crowd control, 5% isnt such a big deal. one drops as an end reward in waterworks.

just a matter of choice really cause i am not all that sure how much more sturdy i am with a shield, but just thought id toss that out there.
