I have had some ppl say they get by with just 8 INT with there rogues? How true is this? Can 8 INT work with or without buffs (ie Greater heroism/Heroism, Fox pots)? Or is 8 INT only workable at low to mid range and crumples top end?

It depends on what you do. Fighting/assassination etc. sure although even there some of your abilities are Int-dependent. Trapsmithing not so much. It is probably theoretically possible to amass gear that would make it semi-viable (plus taking all the Feats and Enhancements) but not without great expenditure.
Generally a trapmonkey starting with 12 Int is doable, but is very gear-dependent and requires some experience. For a new player, 14 and upwards. As a personal preference I go with 16 or 17, but I only build gimp characters![]()
Sine Qua Non.
Its opposite actually. 8 int makes it harder in the lower ranges, but easier in the upper ranges. There are still notorious traps you wont get, cabal elite, rainbow elite and the like are certainly not no fail situations. Heres the deal though, at level 1 you have a +4 max to search and disable from skill points. You have a possible 1-3 item, and virtually no buffs (foxes). So that -1 int modifier is huge. maybe 1/4 of your total modifier. But at level 16 when your disable ranks is at 19, using a +15 item, +5 GH, +1 luck, +6 int item, now a -1 to a 36 is not as big of a deal. I have rogues that started at 14int, 11, int, 10 int, and 8 int (not in that order, 10 was the most recent and that was only for CE otherwise I would have gone 8 prolly). They can all do traps. Im not scared to disable any traps with them, although I blew one in Rainbow elite last night while being lazy with my buffs.
So yes it can be done and is done all the time(figured id sum it up in case you didnt want to read it all

umd search disable
8 int will provide enough skill points
whether the +2 or3 modifier difference is a big deal depends how good gear is available to you and how much rogue skill boost/skill enhancements you wanna take
but theres no reason you couldnt do it
Yeha 16 or 17 is way to many build points for me to stick in int. Thats a +4 to trap skills over an 8 intel, not even enough to guarantee no critical fail (obviously it depends on the DC but if you can get +5 or better it would make a bigger diff imo)
However keep in mind, I only spend a few days disabling traps at lvls 1-10. A few more 10-16, then mostly raid. So a lot depends on how you are going to play. But it is entirely possible to do traps with an 8 starting int.

Agreed. If you have the gear to drop on right away, you dont need to spend much in enhancements. Maybe as you are leveling but once your 15 or better you prolly dont need em. Skill boost is nice as it can help you hit those high umd check scrolls at critical times while you are working on getting top end UMD gear.
