    Default Build List?

Is there a well-maintained list of builds? It seems to me that there are about a million 12-13 / 6 / 1-2 builds out there, using some combination of fighter, ranger, paladin, rogue, monk, and barbarian. Do they all have names?

Short answer to all of those questions: No.

Longer answer: It's nearly impossible to maintain a set of DDO builds. Aranticus has done some fantastic work with his builds for new players, and a few of the top builders have made indices of their own builds (notably Impaqt).

But one of the big things that makes DDO unique (and my choice of game) is that the number of possible builds is astronomical. Indeed, two builds with exactly the same race and class pattern can be fundamentally different -- one example is The Monster (pure DPS build with passable defenses) and The Hate Monster (hate-tank with passable DPS). On the outside, these builds appear identical. But their roles are quite different.

Furthermore, the task of determining which builds were "good" would also be impossible, so any index would reflect the biases of the person who put it together.

Overall, I claim this situation is a good thing!

I can see that. And that there are so many viable builds with the basic lego blocks available is one of the things that appeals to me about DDO.

But as I approach 1750 with my cleric, I've been tossing around ideas in my head for the melee I want to roll and there are so many options. 13 ftr / 6 pal / 1 rog? 12 ftr / 6 pal / 2 mnk (Valenar Crusader)? 13 rog / 6 rng / 1 mnk? *bangs head on table* I don't have the experience that, oh, say, you have to be able to better judge what's possible and what's effective.

    EDIT: DDO is hard! *whine*

I may need help, but this is what I call FUN!

I don't have the experience that, oh, say, you have to be able to better judge what's possible and what's effective.
That leaves two major options: 1) Just build something, and soon you WILL have experience. 2) Copy a forum build you like.

I was thinking more like awesome -- in every sense of the word.

That, too. If it were easy, anybody could play.

    Right now I'm theorizing a 12 fighter / 6 pal / 2 rog evasionhatetank sort of build.

Here's a third option: create your own build and post it on the forums for advice. Ron's character builder can be a really good tool for this, and even has a forum export tool. http://www.rjcyberware.com/DDO/DDOCharGen.html
Tip #71: '3d6' means three six-sided dice are being rolled. For example, when you see that a weapon does '2d4' damage, it means that two 4-sided dice are rolled for damage, for a damage range of 2-8. <--Too difficult to understand? Really?

Just create your own build. Post it, get feedback. Lost? Look on the forums for inspiration. For me, theorizing about all the statistics and numbers is a major source of enjoyment in this game.

This is a great option, but you better put on your Belt of Skin Thickening +17 first. It's almost impossible to NOT rip apart a newb's build, even for folks like me who really try to be constructive.

As long as you're comfortable getting a ton of advice, with some of it being unduly personal and some of it being nonsensical, and then adjusting your build however YOU want to, posting on the forum is a great path to take.

Best of luck whatever you decide to do!

The new player area has a list of 24 builds to get you going.

    Good luck.

haha, no. While a lead designer's job is to balance the game as a whole, each system designer (and each level designer/content guy) is responsible for their own little bit of the game. So as such, I balance spells/enhancements, graal has items and treasure, and Eladrin runs around going "raaar!" a lot. I think he does monsters.
