Game is locking my system up

Until today, the game has been running flawlessly. I was doing the Hidden Chapel quest on Normal and was blinded in the last room with the two named npcs for the quest. As I ran back to the shrine across the hall my system completely locked up and needed to be rebooted. Now I can't even get past the initial load screen to the character window with the system freezing. Any suggestions on how to resolve this is appreciated.

I fixed it. Seems there was a heating issue. Cleaned the system fans and removed excess dust buildup. Working great.
