    Default Spell Resistance enchantments

    Worth taking for a evocation based sorcerer(lvl6 now)? I'm a new player and not sure if it's worth spending enchantments on it.

    to sum up the above link and more:

    its an undispellable check vs energy drain(no save), fortitude, will attacks

    drow spell resistance is more useful when:
    there is no cleric, fvs, ranger, bard to cast freedom of movement
    there is no cleric, fvs to cast mass spell resistance or mass death ward
    any of the above spells can get dispelled (beholder, priests, high dungeon alert?)
    you can't fit a deathblock item into your gear set up
    you have low will and fort saves

    ( dependant on the type of fvs as they may not even have those 2 mass spells )

    basically in a group with no healer/soloing/duoing etc etc

    spell resistance check: <caster level> +1d20 must be greater than <target resistance> + <target level>

    eg: 18 +1d20 vs 18 + 20
    in a level 18 dungeon (normal) with a maxed out drow resistance (+20) they will only succeed on a roll of 20 (5% - auto hit).
    asides from energy drain and similar spells (no save) it would then have to make a 2nd check against your appropriate save.

    with no resistance enhancements then you are looking at a roughly 50% chance of it getting through (+11)

    if the mob has spell pen feats/enhancements (not sure which have if even possible) then that +11 will be reduced to +4 granting only a 20%(roughly) chance of resistance. this (and in hard/elites) is where the clerics' spell resistance spell will outshine maintaining a 5% chance to be breached.

    its eseentially a 1st line of defense and you can tell how annoying SR is when you try to cast a spell with an SR check against a mob with SR.

    it will always be useful as a save of 1 means "you're doomed"... if it fails your SR check then you don't even need to roll a save. a dwarf (or any other race) without an SR item(no 1 can fit one on to gear) or cleric to cast SR does NOT get this 2nd check (they do but they will always fail unless its quests lower than you).

    i have level 3 of it (+18) on my mid level sorc that does groups and solos. i also have force of personality.
    its taking up 6 action points which is doable for a sorc unless you want 2 maxxed damage lines and every single one of the other caster perks.

    the thing to remember is that its providing protection whether you enhance it, or notice whether its helping or not.
    enhancing it makes it exceptional for quests on normal difficulty around your level and makes it viable for hard/elite quests.

    it is the defensive vs offensive vs balance choice

    You missed the point of the post entirely. You think they're good. The OP of the link thinks they're bad.

    Drow SR enhc are worthless. The enhc are better spent elsewhere. On a caster (which is really one of the only classes which should be playing a drow) you will get the ring of Thelis eventually, which gives more SR. Or just get a scroll. Spending APs on a highly situational thing is pretty useless. Most people, I'd imagine, even forget that Drow get SR, since its entirely useless.

    1. im well aware that the OP think they're bad but not all the replies in that thread see it in the same light. the OP is very bias against Drow and my post here sees it on both lights so that viewers can make up their own mind about it.

    2a. saying you'll get ring of thelis is almost as bad as saying every1 runs around with +3 to +4 tomes and 3rd tier
    greensteel. not to mention those drow SP enhancements will serve you while you level and not when you're at or near cap when there will always be that cleric around (assuming you raid)

    2b. many drow are rogue since its not a poor choice if you prefer the stats to say halfling flanking. i haven't looked at other classes lately but that was just on the top of my head.

    3. how is it situational. i can't think of 1 dungeon above level 2 that doesn't have a caster in it.

    4. saying that its straight out useless simply enforces that you didn't even read my post so i won't be replying to any more of your ignorant comments.
