When selling loot we acquire, we have four options.
- Sell to the general vendors for ~10% of base value
- Sell to the pawn brokers for ~15% of base value
- Try selling it directly to another player in the Trade channel or on the forum
- Try selling it on the auction house
The last two options require a bit more footwork, but work well as they keep loot circulating in the system. The first two options currently shunt an item into the vastness of space, removing the item from the game entirely and leaving a bit of gold in its wake.
I'd like to concentrate on the second option.
Pawn Brokers
Brokers are a great idea. They allow a player to very easily convert their unwanted item to gold, but also allow other players the chance of buying that item if it really interests them. Unlike general vendors, this is a win for everyone involved.
The major problem lies in how the brokers handle their wares. They often wipe their stores completely and, depending on how much traffic they get, may not have any wares at all.
I'd like to see the wares of a broker persist through server resets. I'd like to see them stop the practice of throwing out their entire selection.
To deter the infinite lists of wares that would appear with the above change alone, give sold items a time stamp and each broker a unique item limit. When a broker hits their maximum storage, each new item sold to them should push out their oldest stock.
This means that a broker will always have something to sell.
I'd especially like to see this change made for the pawn broker in Ataraxia's Haven. She's really starting to irritate me.
