Default Pawn Brokers - suggested changes

When selling loot we acquire, we have four options.

    • Sell to the general vendors for ~10% of base value
    • Sell to the pawn brokers for ~15% of base value
    • Try selling it directly to another player in the Trade channel or on the forum
    • Try selling it on the auction house

The last two options require a bit more footwork, but work well as they keep loot circulating in the system. The first two options currently shunt an item into the vastness of space, removing the item from the game entirely and leaving a bit of gold in its wake.

I'd like to concentrate on the second option.

    Pawn Brokers

Brokers are a great idea. They allow a player to very easily convert their unwanted item to gold, but also allow other players the chance of buying that item if it really interests them. Unlike general vendors, this is a win for everyone involved.

The major problem lies in how the brokers handle their wares. They often wipe their stores completely and, depending on how much traffic they get, may not have any wares at all.

I'd like to see the wares of a broker persist through server resets. I'd like to see them stop the practice of throwing out their entire selection.

To deter the infinite lists of wares that would appear with the above change alone, give sold items a time stamp and each broker a unique item limit. When a broker hits their maximum storage, each new item sold to them should push out their oldest stock.

This means that a broker will always have something to sell.

I'd especially like to see this change made for the pawn broker in Ataraxia's Haven. She's really starting to irritate me.

There should be a simple way to improve this: multiply the timeout on the pawnbroker instances from 5 minutes to 10, 15, or 30.

That would not give the full effect you desire, because it certainly wouldn't last across resets and such. But even just 10 minutes would majorly reduce the chance of their inventory being erased due to insufficient traffic.

However, the devs have explained that to set some instances with a different timeout limit would be too difficult, and require server programmers that aren't available anymore.

Just organizing the massive list (at times) of items (usually weapons) better would be an improvement. Perhaps use the left tree nav to sort or easily find the item you are looking for on a Pawn Broker? I hate waiting for that list to build itself...trying to find out if the pawn broker even has a specific weapon type I'm looking for...only not to find it at all.

    just a thought.

and yeah, the OP suggestion too.

    Additional request ...

Make a broker keep the same inventory across instances. It's pretty silly to be able to flip to the alternate marketplaces to find different wares for each broker (with some being empty, as is common in markets 5 and 6).
