Default How viable are most of these builds?

I see a ton of great builds here and in the class forums but they all seem predicated on having a virtual library full of +2 or better tomes and some seriously uber gear. I understand how the gear can come, but do that many people just have stacks of tomes laying around to make most of these builds? It seems every time I'm looking at something I want to create it doesn't seem feasible without the tomes. Just curious if a lot of these builds are more like wishlists and what you *could* do with all that stuff, as opposed to what you can do without it.

Most people who have been playing a long time do have whole sets of +2 tomes.

Keep in mind +3s have been out a long time so +2s are not conisdered high end stuff. And not +4s are even out. Look at the price of +2 on the ah then notice that there are people out there with serveral toons with 4.7 mil plat each. And you will see even if they had 0 tomes they could have 6 with in about 2 min if they wanted.

you can make the builds without the tomes. Mite have to adjust a few stats by a point. The gear you will get eventually Bottom line is to build a toon you want to play and then make it the best you can. I never worry about it myself.
    just my 2CP

Most good build posts (by my definition, anyhow) will make some note of which Tomes are actually needed (and when) in order to meet prereqs and which are just nice to have. For example (from my signature), both Axesinger and Killer Frog require a +1 Tome or two, but other tomes are gravy. Hate Monster is a slightly more power-gamery build, requiring a +1 Tome and a much-harder-to-come-by +2 Tome. My latest build, The Hammer, is a pure power-gamer build, that (eventually) requires a +3 Tome, a +2 Tome, and multiple +1 Tomes. (This build is beyond my personal means, which is why it's not linked from my signature.)

Even if this information is not explicitly called out by the builder, you can figure it out yourself by checking the prerequisites on all of the feats and enhancements that are listed, and see if your "base" stat will meet that on its own, or require a Tome. It's kind of a pain, but at least you'll know what you're in for!

All that said, almost every build post lists its maximum potential with all sorts of insane equipment, because that's often the simplest way to create an apples to apples comparison. Otherwise, everyone would have to agree on exactly what you limit yourself to when quoting build statistics. The implied limit of "everything available in the game" is the easiest such "limit" to use to allow some comparisons between builds.
