proficient with items??

there is a small box in the upper right hand corner saying " im not proficient with my equipment".
how do i get proficient with my equipment???

1 - Choose a class that is proficient with the weapon/armour you want to use.

2 - Choose a feat for proficiency with the weapon/armour you want to use.

Check all the class feats you get at level 1 during character creation to see if the class has the feats and proficiencies you desire.

Note that in this game not every class can use every item or skill, that would be boring
