    Default CTD during gameplay

When I first installed DDO unlimted last week (Full Download), the game was running fine. Didnt get a single CTD. But since the last update / maintenance the game has been crashing to desktop a lot.

Today its CTD four times while questing both solo and in a party. It could be just a coincidences, but it always seems to occur when a fire effect is on screen. Usually when I fight fire mephits or when a party member casts firewall. All four crashes had the fire visual effect on screen at the time.

Also another thing I noticed since the update is that the enemies shadows are now appearing through the worlds geometry. I am pretty sure it didn’t do that before?

    My system specs:

Vista 32bit with Service pack 2, Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 5200+ with dual core optimisation installed, 2048 DDR2 800Mhz RAM, GeForce EN8800 GTX 768mb, Screen Res: 1400x900. On max. graphics settings for DDO.

I am getting pretty much the same thing. I have a GeForce 8800GTS, though, maybe it's the 8 series card?

I crash to desktop pretty regularly now, impossible to play.

Its good to hear I am not the only one getting this. My card is also the Geforce 8800 series, so you might be right Seance. Can anyone else confirm CTD‘s with the same chipset?

BTW I CTD’d a fifth time last night during a Storm Cleave run. Once I logged back in, I found out another in the party had also crashed to desktop at the exact same time. This time there was no fire visual effect, but there were traps about.

The world server was Sarlona in all five cases.

Would be nice to know if there is a work around, because right now, it isn’t worth starting any quests, since it usually CTD’s at the most ill-timed moment during a heavy combat bout or trap negotiation.

I'm getting similar crashes...although mine are most noticable when Sleet Storm is cast. Chamber of Insanity is true to its name.

I have a newer NVidia GTX 275...so if it's Video Card/Driver related it could be the NVidia drivers. I'm running the latest drivers from the NVidia website.

Can you tell me what NVidia driver version you are using? Thanks.

I'd pass if you're not having problems. I'm running the latest release version of the NVidia reference drivers...and, well, why risk it?

GOod point, But many things flicker quite a bit as they comeinto my visual range. Its a bit annoying and I've attributed it to being a potential driver issue. I can always update and then rollback if I do have issues.

Well, I've rolled back to your version. I got the drivers from guru3d.com.

I also changed the User Permission on the DDO folder as suggested by Mirthgar in this thread: http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=198504

Haven't tested with those changes yet ... need a break from the Chamber of Insanity, which is where I've been (so far unsuccessfully) testing possible fixes.

    Default Sound

I would bet money that it just seems like a graphics problem but it actually is a sound effect issue. Make sure you have the newest sound drivers for your sound card or mainboard.

^^ Or try just disabling sound effects and music and see what you get.
It occurs to me that the dice are being rolled by the same computer that's trying to kill me. It knows all the moves - it's just toying with me.

I've already done the whole "switch from hardware to software mode" fix. Guess fully disabling sound is the next step to test.

    And test failed.

    Disabling sound doesn't help.

Getting close to a full reinstall of Windows XP.

I had this problem last night as well.

I took a char out to Gianthold and fought out there for about 15 minutes. Eventually one of the gnolls cast sleet storm (ice storm?) and my music stuttered. Next thing I know I'm staring at the half naked chick on my desktop.

I rebooted and logged back in. As soon as I was loaded in, the same gnoll cast sleet storm (even though I was dead) and BAM, desktop.

I'll try futzing with the above mentioned items to see if they have any effect for me.

I'm using an old Nvidia Quadro card, which barely meets min reqs anyhow. Just thought I'd share.

I've had this problem for a bit now too. Sleetstorm = instant CTD. I think it has something to do with nvidia's drivers and DDO. I am using a Geforce 7900 GS. I originally thought it was my system because of the sound playbacks. Since then I have disabled sound, virus checked, ad/malware scanned, updated/rolledback drivers, checked ram, chkdsk'd & defragged harddrive, temperatures, voltages, dxdiag, and reinstalled DDO.

Nothing is wrong on my end. I think it is the DDO client & compatability with nVidia cards on this latest patch.

8800 GTS (Windows XP home edition), and regular crashes...of two kinds.
1.Instantaneous CTD, after which re-login is fast.
    2. Graphical crash, weird display patterns, frozen screen, hard box reboot is required.

The CTD is relatively rare, the Graphical Crash is quite common, once every 30-60 minutes.
Very frustrating. I installed the latest drivers for Nvidia, and reset my preferences folder, not sure what else to do.
    Any advice would be appreciated.

    *bump*

As stated in another thread i have basically the same problem (even if i use a Radeon)

    http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=203015

Maybe we should collect this issues in one big thread? could help turbine to sort it out. As it seems several people have this problem.
