Default New players answering questions wrong...

I spent 30 minutes on a lowbie in korthos tonight. I was SHOCKED at the amount of VALID questions that were being answered by people that had no clue what they were talking about.

If I could please implore all of you Old School D+D players that just started playing this game, dont answer quetions based on how P+P works, because not everything here follows rules set forth in P+P.

For anyone else answering a question, before you start trying to be the first to answer a question, finish reading it. When someone asks if they will be able to get sneak attacks as a pure ranger and you say yes because "everyone has the ability to sneak" (actual answer tonight) you are making someone think you know what you are talking about when you have NO IDEA.

I strongly feel that FTP will bolster this game and help it grow, but for the love of ham, please help it grow the right way, with people learning the right things.

So wait you are telling me that there is NO way in DDO that a pure ranger can get sneak attack damage?

I'm pretty sure no one with sneak as a feat can get sneak attack damage without the sneak attack feat, which is why rogues are the only ones that can. But you must have sneak enabled and a backstab weapon, and attack from behind.

Curious as to why you edited????

To comment on your first try at this post, I did not mislead anyone as I did not answer the question at all, nor any of the questions(just wanted to see what they were talking about). But to see someone answer "yes, everyone has the ability to sneak" to a question specifically about sneak attack bothers me.

If you have nothing constructive, move along.

I changed it because someone already realised what I was talking about and its clear to me that you dont understand. I choose to not give you a direct link expalining what I ment. But I am sure someone else will soon.

Wrong. You do not need sneak enabled or a backstab weapon to get sneak attack damage.

Yeah as the previous poster said, that's wrong.

    Sneak Attack
    Usage: Passive
Allows you to deal additional damage when a monster is unaware of your presence or targeting another character.

    ... Seriously?

You didn't get this was a joke thread? Especially after the "sneak attack feat"?

I thought this was going to be a thread about hilarious misinformation for newbies, instead it turned into a flamefest and a bunch of non-humorous replies. Sad. =/

Sorry, I failed to see the humor in your post. Sneak Attack is a feat the last I checked. http://compendium.ddo.com/wiki/Feat:Sneak_Attack

Pretty sure that isn't the point of that he was trying to make.

Who decides who is knowledgeable enough to respond to help questions? My guess is that you feel you should hold that position. So in a sense, you feel superior or elite to others...at least in knowledge. I'm sorry, but your reaction and thread leave more of a bad taste in my mouth than perhaps some noob giving advice to some other noob. It is ironic it turns out he was right and you wrong.

help it grow the right way, with people learning the right things.
Wow, perhaps we should have brown shirted toons with arm bands patrolling the newb area making sure people learn the right way.

Why did you feel the need to post here and not just comment to the two your concerns about the sneak issue? In the normal act of communicating, maybe they or you would have learned something.

    You are a funny person....

If my thread leaves a bad taste in your mouth, you should watch where you put it next time.

If you think he was right and I was wrong then you can continue to listen to the people that are spreading false information about game mechanics and I'll see you limping into groups as last resorts too.

If someone knows the way something works and the person they are speaking to doesn't, well that pretty much makes the one who knows knowledgeable and the one who doesn't not knowledgeable. In this case (yes it was said earlier in the thread that anyone can get sneak attack via ITEMS and WEAPONS) I had the CORRECT information and the people answering the question did not. If that makes you think that I think of myself as elite or superior, then you are seriously misjudging someone that you do not know at all.

As far as my "learn this game the right way" comment, this was brought about by a lvl 6 wiz/2fighter/2 monk that I saw playing in breastplate and a tower shield trying to cast spells. It does not mean what you took it as, that being, everyone should listen to me, because I can care less how people play, but it would be nice if when they played they understood some of the basic game mechanics.

If your life's work can be completed in your lifetime, you're thinking too small.

Normally I don't comment in flame wars, but I have to admit I find it amusing that it took two full pages before a Nazi reference was made. Usually in flame wars it happens alot faster.

The sad thing is, flaming anyone on this topic is silly.

Do we as older players really want newer players be given wrong information early on?

The amusing part for me is that someone will look at my join date and assume I'm one of those older players...

I suppose, technically, I am. I mean, I joined up on day 1 and played for quite some time. But I left a good 2.5 years ago(just after the Titan raid came out... I left before anyone actually succeeded in that raid) and gave everything away.

Only just came back... so I'm basically a noob again. 3 level 10 characters with 1 exp to go for level 11 and they're naked. Heh. Now I'm running through with a new lowbie seeing so many familiar, yet unfamiliar, things.

I'm having fun though... and love watching some of the comments in /advice and area chat.

Besides... As someone pointed out... I thought everyone knew that all characters can backstab.... and anyone can use any wand or any scroll.

And Constitution is a throw-away stat. You don't need it, just ask any healer.

Oh yeah... and you CAN dual weild 2hand weapons(my personal favorite question I see several times a day)

You do know not everyone here is old right? To many like uniforms and armbands would more likely remind them of Babylon 5 and the nightwatch earth group. Or any other TV series that they like. There are like 50 that have something like that.

IE not everyone knows more than just a few pics and few pages they got in history class. And not everyone knows when they reference anything that could in any way be related to something before they were born that old people will view it that way.

Actually, I was thinking of lumber jacks in brown flannel shirts with inflatable swimming arm band flotation devices on due to flash flooding concerns. These guys could carry their double bladed axes around the newb area and lop the heads off of any so foolish enough to misspeak. I think you watch too much history channel. Besides, the OP had no idea what I was talking about.

When I am in an area where I see the General and Advice, I am constantly amazed at all the people who ask,

"What class should I take next Level?"

    Always followed by,

    "What are you now?"

    And way too many--

    "Ranger Wizard" or "Cleric Wizard"

Im not saying that these aren't viable builds, but, just randomly asking what 3rd class to take next level just blows my mind.
