Hello everyone!
I'm an old DDO subscriber back to check out what they've done with this game and have been... very disappointed. When I originally bought this game on launch it ran fine on my computer. Everything worked and I had no complaints. Now that the game is free I can enjoy it (or was hoping to enjoy it) all over again with some of my economically challenged friends. Well I loaded everything up expecting the same excellent experience I got out of this game previously only to get a black screen due to the game "Not Responding".
I'm pretty tech savvy, have worked in the field of help desk for corporate almost 3 years now also been a gamer on computer for at least 10 years so I kinda know a bit about common PC problems and can generally get most buggy games to at least run on my machine, but this one has me at a total loss. I've tried everything I read on the forums plus a few tricks of my own and nothing worked. Here's a list of a few of the things I have tried...
-New drivers from ATI
-New ATI drivers from Microsoft
-Update Catalyst Control Center
-Updated sound card drivers
-Refocusing the window when the game launches (DX10 issue)
-Reinstalling the game
-Re-downloading and reinstalling the game
-Reinstalling the game on multiple drives
-Updating DX10 & 9
-Changing system privileges
-Disabling UAC
-Disabling security software (Firewall, AV, Ect.)
And probably a few others I can't think of and nothing work!
I'd have to admit this is the first time I have been disappointed with any Turbine product. I think that releasing a game for free to the world to get back customers when it doesn't work on at least 20% of customer machines is going to be a real loss for them. You don't want to tell the world to come see your excellent product which is now free only have it buggier then when it was pay to play. In the end what Turbine lost was at least 4 potential customers whom would have probably made purchases (I know I would have!).
Well despite how it seems I'm not here to bash Turbine. As I have said they make excellent products and I only wish I could enjoy this one with my friends. If anyone has some ideas on how I could get the game running, perhaps something not in the list I would be more then willing to try it. Otherwise happy hunting everyone. I will keep the game installed so I can update it in hopes that a new patch might fix things!
