    Default Monk race?

What race is best for a monk? What race is best for a 28 point monk?

Over 225 views and not a single response? I'm just wondering what the strengths and weakness of each race are. Some are obvious of course, but what overall tends to be tops?

Depends on what you want to do I like my 3 monks

    1. drow has my highest ac at 63 unbuffed

    2. dwarf only lvl 3 so not much to say

    3. warforged lots of fun but takes more damage then the drow and also behind in dps since handwraps lag and he doesnt have greensteel but lots of hp and a 55 ac.

It depends what you want to do with your monk of course... more details make for better responses....

I would think halflings or elves would make the best 28 pt monks because they can get dex high enough for GTWF with fewer build points, leaving more points for wisdom or other important monk stats

drow make good monks as you get your int up higher cheaper if you want CE

yes, if you want CE drow are basically 30 pt builds (since the charisma is still pointless on a monk)

well it gives you a cushion when fighting things that drain cha since when you hit 0 your helpless but other then that rare situation ya its useless. I did make a umd monk once but didnt work well enough to keep her.

    ok...here goes..

    Halfling monk
    STR 12
    DEX 16
    CON 14
    INT 8
    WIS 16
    CHA 8

At level 4 and 8 put stat ponits into DEX....lvls 12,16 and 20 put into WIS....
Feats...Weapon Finesse, toughness, TWF, ITWF, Path of Harmonious Balance, and whatever else you want....Max out the enhancment line for WIND STANCE..

If you want more DPS and less AC...

    Dwarf monk
    STR 16
    DEX 15
    CON 14
    INT 8
    WIS 14
    CHA 6
Put all lvl up points into STR....the fire stance....and you will be good. Take the same Feats listed above.

Just my thoughts on the matter.......

Halfling is definitely great for dex builds, and the dragonmark can be a real life saver in some situations I've found. Drow is a good choice as well at least until you're able to unlock 32 point builds

How long does it take, in terms of levels, to get 1750 favor? I'm at level 6 and not even drow has been unlocked.

    Default favor

Level -in and of itself - has nothing 2 do w/favor. The higher level means access to more quests. Doing quests grants favor. The higher the quest, the more the favor. So, U will get more points doing 3 5th lvl than U get doing 5 3rd lvl. The other advantage of higher lvl is ease in doing the quest. My Ftr/Rog 7/7 did a bunch of the lower new stuff (in order to unlock Favored Soul) in very little time and almost no expenditure of resources. Adventure areas (3 Barrel Cove, Waterworks, etc.) DO NOT (unless there has been a change) grant favor. So, if U have been XP farming in the "wilderness", U will level quickly but get NO (or little) favor. I would suggest doing ALL of the lower level quests (1-4; inc. Korthos Island) and see how far from unlock Drow U R. I state this because they can be done solo. IF U hv plenty of reliable people, I would suggest doing the raid lines. U get better loot and more XP and favor that way.

I know favor has nothing to do with level, I'm just curious on a rough estimate. If I just quested randomly, mostly actual quests and not much wilderness, about how long would it take?

at lvl 17 my monk has 1279 favor without really trying.

    another question for the monks:

how come i can't select gtwf - i have all the requirements: dex, bab, and itwf - what gives?

You sure you have the base bab? Remember, you gain some extra from flurry, which does not qualify for feat prereqs, the earliest a pure monk can take gtwf is level 15, not 12.

I'm a big Human fan for Monks, even for 28 pt builds.
Human versatility offers you better saves, to-hit, damage, etc. when you need it. That +5dmg per fist is a free 30sec Power Attack and can make all the difference in some fights, as can a quick +5 AC boost if you're taking heat.

You can also tailor your stats as a Human, adding +1 to WIS and STR if you want - something no other race can do. You also don't have any inherent weakness, such as a low STR (if halfling) or low CON (if Elf) or low WIS (if WF) - and Monks need all of these stats!

You also get the best healing amplification, so healers will love you.

And you get more skill points and an extra feat, which you can't go wrong with, really. I took the Orien dragonmarks on my Human Monk, and love it. Dimension Door + Wholeness of Body if I get in a tight spot is amazing, and adds a level of soloability that most other monks won't have.

IMO Halfling is probably the best. Unless you want a Str build. But even then..

I've wanted to do a WF Mnk for awhile.

My only current Mnk is human and he's ok.

There's really not a best race for any class really. Just depends on preference.
But some races have advantages for some things, so they go well with a certain kind of build.
I gave up a life of farming to become an Adventurer.

With my 16(At the time) WF Sorc who only had about 900 favor due to just farming the good xp quests. It took me 3 days to achieve 1750 favor by focusing on it. The WF Sorc, or wizard can achieve 1750 favor the fastest.

It takes a while for a monk, because they kill slow, and really can't AOE half an instance at once effectively. For a startup character, I'd recommend a caster of some sort. They're the least gear dependent, and are some of the most powerfull solo characters out there in late game.

As far as the Monk build goes. I went with a halfling on mine, but I have the 32 point build. My monk is currently level 7, and has a 29 ac unbuffed.

    http://my.ddo.com/character/thelanis/duratan/

So far feats wise I went: Toughness, Least DragonMark of Healing, wep focus bludgeon, power attack, and Lesser Dragon Mark of healing, light philosophy as well.

To be honest, I didn't start to hold my own against other melee's in the group until I got holy handwraps, but I never die, and fighters do.

My last guy to reach 1750 did it at level 15. I have a level 14 at 1450. In both tried cases I've tried to run favor at level to get both favor and xp. I would say that unless you do alot of favor runs early with high level characters so you don't get any xp or just concentrate on leveling at the expense of favor, you should hit 1750 around level 16 or 17.

Human has no penalties but no bonuses

Dwarf has bonus to con and penalty to a dump stat plus a bunch of other nifty dwarven resistances. I'm not sure why there's not more dwarf monk love.
