Persistent graphic freezes during adventures

Hey supportteam (and forumwatchers too).

I used to be a subscribtion player a long time ago and have recently returned with the launch of DDO: EU. I'm currently gaming as a free player.

The problem:
I experience recurring graphic freezes during adventures (meaning while inside quest instances).
Specification:
The issue seems to only involve graphics, as sound effects (weapon swings, jumping sounds, chatwarnings etc.) keep playing. The mouse cursor however is visible and responds to movement as the only thing moving on the screen (only when not in mouselook mode though). Also I've determined that my character stays in the world and interact with the environment (such as actually hitting/killing monsters) and chat (writing messages in partychat), through testing with friends present on the adventure (using skype as voicecom, not the integrated system - haven't tested if that functions during freezes).
I've only encountered this issue during "dungeon" quests, never in public areas (Korthos village/Stormreach) or outside (Korthos island). The frequency of freezes varies from approximately 1 minute after login (provided I'm logging in while on a quest) to 1 hour (meaning I've had time for multiple quests).
I've found that some specific quests seem more prone to cause freezes. "Stopping the Sahuagin" just in the beginning of Korthos Island has been the worst, with freezes often happening directly after loading.
System function:
When I experience the freezes, it doesn't affect anything else on my computer. I can alt-tab while in fullscreen mode or change the current window in windowed mode. Only the game freeze up.
What it looks like:
It varies based on whether I'm playing fullscreen or windowed.
In fullscreen the image keep "shaking" (like it's constantly shifting between the same 2-3 images over and over again). If I alt-tab and maximize the window again, the image have become static and often show the room I was in, without my character and without a floor.
In windowed the image simply freeze up and remain static no matter what I do.
In both cases there's still the exception of my mouse cursor actually responding.

So far my only solution to the problem is shutting down the DDO client and restarting it. That does tend to get quite annoying if freezes happen often.

I've looked through a lot of threads on the forum, but haven't managed to solve my problem, so I hope you'll be able to help.

I'm fairly sure that my problem is driver related, but I'm not an expert in that area. I've been looking for driver updates, but so far I've been unable to find any sites which don't require payment.

Recent experiences:
I had noticed that everytime I started up DDO, Vista would shift colorscheme to "basic". Trying to outrule this as the cause for the freezes I'm experiencing, I tried setting the windows standard to "basic".
Initially my gaming experience improved, but I still encountered issues eventually. Thus the autoswitch to "basic" can't have been the sole cause of my problem (if it even have anything to do with them at all).

Since then, I've been playing some new quests after reaching Stormreach. In some dungeons I never experience freeze-ups, but in others it happens very often. I mentioned this in the previous post as well.

The interesting bit is that the freezing-issue seems to not only be related to specific dungeons, but also occur more frequently in certain areas of these dungeons.
Playing the first "Waterworks" quests (don't remember if it was "Clan Gnashtooth" or "Rescuing Arlos"), You come upon a squareshaped room with a plateau in the middle. There's water around the plateau and drawbridges linking to exits on all four sides. This specific room triggered a freeze-up every single time I entered and multiple times I froze up instantly on login afterwards (while still in the same room of course).

This made me wonder whether it's a graphical issue in the room, that doesn't work well with my graphics-card or drivers (as mentioned before, my drivers are outdated and this might be the issue).
Since then I've done a little bit of testing, and statistically it seems that "crystal-lit" dungeon areas provoke the video freeze-ups more often than "torch-lit".

Have anyone noticed a similar pattern?

I'm having this same issue. Screen locks up but I can still hear things - and I can still talk using voice chat to my group. Only solution is to ctrl alt del and kill the DDO task. Then restart the client.

I run Vista 64. I have an ATI 4850 graphics card. I updated my Catalyst drivers to the latest version.

Is the DEV team working on fixing this problem? It happened twice to me last night - very frustrating. I am the healer and it seems this always happens during fights and wipes my group.

If it helps, there are updated drivers directly from Acer's website here (both audio and video are from Dec08... much more recent than what you've got). So you might check those out... I'm guessing you're in Denmark (at least, you appear to be using Danish language drivers).

You might give those a shot a see what happens. Past that, there are ways of updating to latest ATI drivers but it will require some work.
