    Question Impact of Alignment?

    I've just re-started with DDO.

Since there is no RP, other than Class restriction, I'm wondering whether Alignment have any real game impact. Any views pls?

Some weapons and gear have alignment restrictions, along with the class ones. But beyond that, there is no real gameplay impact at all over what your alignment is.

    Class restrictions
    ~Monk
    ~Paly
    ~Bard
    ~Barb
    Items
~Pure Good weapons are the most common
~Ring of Ancestors (1 clicky of raise dead also avail in Shroud Raid without restriction)

These are the most common. There are a few others as well. No restriction as far as what quests you can run or what the outcome is.

Actually, Alignment DOES have some impact upon gameplay.

    Good-aligned characters:
-Can use Pure Good weapons without needing UMD
-Can use Ring of the Ancestors (Raise Dead 1/rest)
-Take extra damage from Unholy weapons

    Neutral characters:
-Can use Litany of the Dead (best trinket in the game)
-Can use Unholy weapons (for PvP and Running with the Devils) without gaining negative levels

There is no reason to roll a Good caster, since it will only harm you. Early in a melee's adventuring career, Good alignment helps more than it hurts. Late in a melee's adventuring career, Good alignment hurts more than it helps.

    Hope that helps you decide!

    Thanks Memnir, Quikster & MediocreSurgeon.

What about Law vs Chaos? I heard there are some axiomatic & anarchic items. Can a True Neutral use both types?

    Possibly.

There are two major types of alignment effects,"<Alignment>-" and "-of pure <algnment>"

    Chaotic:
    -of pure chaos
    Anarchic-

    Lawful:
    -of pure law
    Axiomatic-

    Good:
    -of pure good
    Holy-

The suffix does damage(1d6) to other alignment, the prefix does damage(2d6) to the opposing alignment (good-evil, lawful-chaotic).

Burst variants as well as special cases (GS weapons, Enduring Conviction) exists.

Since you can't be evil everyone can use holy weapons

    Good-aligned characters:
-Can use Pure Good weapons without needing UMD
-Can use Ring of the Ancestors (Raise Dead 1/rest)
-Take extra damage from Unholy weapons

    True Neutral/Lawful Neutral/Chaotic Neutral characters:
-Can use Litany of the Dead (best trinket in the game) and marilith chain without gaining a negative level
-Can use Unholy weapons (for PvP and Running with the Devils) without gaining negative levels
-Does not take extra damage from Unholy weapons

    Lawful characters
    - Can use "pure law" items and chaos guarde without the need for UMD
    - Gains a negative level if wielding a Anarchic weapon

    Chaotic characters
    - Can use "pure chaos" items without the need for UMD
    - Gains a negative level if wielding a Axiomatic weapon

    True Neutral/Neutral Good characters
    - Can use both anarchic and axiomatic weapons without negative levels
    - Need UMD for "pure law/chaos"
    Added some stuff.

Correct. Monks must also be lawful and bards can be any non-lawful.

true neutral can also use stability items

if you are a bard (UMD is a class skill, you have high CHA, and cant be lawful so no pally levels), go true neutral, the only loss is you cant use PG weapons at low-mid levels
