Can we get "Evasion" as a general feat now like "Bow Str." is??? I know it should have some requirements for it. Thoughts????
I really like this idea, actually. I'm squeamish in general about changes to PnP, but I think this one could work. A lot of splashes are made for the sole purpose of getting evasion, and this would give people another option.
The prerequisites would have to be fairly high, though, since in this format evasion is even more powerful than it was in PnP. I'm thinking 17+ dexterity and both dodge and mobility, and maybe lightning reflexes thrown in there for good measure.
I'd be ok with it as long as it had at least the following requirements:
1) 15 dex for evasion feat
2) Alertness feat
3) Dodge (prereq for...)
4) Mobility.
5) Lightning reflexes.
For such a powerfull ability, 15 dex is not unreasonable, nor is requireing 4 feats.

I think four pre-req feats a little two steep for any attraction to it ... would be cheaper to take the two level splash, the two level splash be giving more return then those four feats + evasion, then the pure levels you gave up.
Think about it? Seven (eight if human) feats available for most classes - pure twf pally + evasion cannot be done unless human and pretty weak if you did, same for barb, Fighter - 13 more feats but still tight since you would want to fill out full dps (five right there) and gather some hp, saves and other things, five feats total for invasion vs the 2 level splash of rogue or monk are still more attractive... and the later you get 12 skill points Snaek Attack or another feat and some other abilities... for the loss of 8hp and 1 BaB.
So what makes evasion so attractive? Well first of all you do need the reflex save to make it useful but also remember it's the casting mob blasting you with a 200hp fireball you wish to avoid, Quite funny should you be asking me... One thing they could have considered is this the deterent of spell damage offset by evasion is not propotional with the damage of those without it may take. Possibly do this instead of the d10 or d12 etc... most non-evasion classes have make it a d20? The problem with evasion in DDO is simple the proportions of HP between the damage one can receive vs that which hps it protects are not on equal levels as it is in PnP.

I don't think this is a good idea.
IMO to get something as powerful as evasion you should have to give up your Level 20 class benefits (for the time being at least ;-) ) by splashing.
If it is added to the game then it should be so expensive in feats that you have to nerf other aspects of you build to take it, otherwise you will have entire parties of evading characters, which will force the developers to take steps to rebalance.
I don't think 4 feats would be too expensive for the advantage gained, but fighters would probably become ALOT more popular ;-)
If I were objectively looking at DDO for examples of where a complete departure from PnP rules is justified, I think evasion is the best example. The "all or nothing" aspect simply does not work well in DDO and a more graded version would probably be well justified. The "damage die reduction" approach you mention would also be a valid change.
Funny thing is, Turbine apparently thinks that the inability to always hit mobs is where PnP needs to be altered, and thus we get the grazing blow system instead.
