    Default Cleric for Dynamic Duo?

Okay, my wife and I are returning players. She has a L 12 Fighter with a big axe and my job as her personal L12 Cleric is to keep her alive so she can kill stuff. We'll mostly only play together (I have other characters for group play). We are both human.

I originally imagined that I would go pure Cleric, but after looking at the capstone I'm not too impressed. I'm a bit disappointed in the prestige enhancements too but I'm thinking going the Sovereign host pasth to get the Unyielding Sovereignty enhancement at L16.

But for after that I'm wondering if I would be better off mult-classing. I already took bastard sword as a feat (though I could switch that out). I'm wondering if I should just take some Fighter levels and focus on longsword since Follower of the Sovereign Host gives a bonus to longswords, or . . . I don't know, that's what I'm looking for input on.

I've searched for the forums for cleric builds and they seems to focus on either grouping or soloing. I'm looking for an ideal duo team member.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks.

cleric builds, pure or splash, can solo most of the game content. Most folks add a second (or third) class much earlier in the process then lvl12. I would recommend you keep a pure cleric. Focus on offense feats and learn to use blade barrier, desctruction, and eventually implosion, to kill more then your wife's fighter can dream about.

I know several folks with pure cleric builds that out kill the hack slash toons. check the cleric build site for clerics that are not healbots.

It would help if you post your stats. Like Dasein said though, you just received your best offensive spells in blade barrier and cometfall.

The key to blade barrier is to run the mobs through the baldes so they get hit more than once.

I made a 17 clr/3 pal to duo with my brother and so far the build is turning out awesome. At level 4 his saves are all over 10, he is immune to disease, fear and sleep (drow). Extra Hp's and BAB over pure cleric, two smites that regenerate and two lay on hands between rest. Aura gives +2ac, +2 to all saves, +3 concentration, +4 to fear saves. Can use martial weapons instead of being limited to simple so he is a longsword specialist that took Sovereign host path for +1 to hit with longswords. Later on sovereign host path allows you to get a skill that cures all ailments from a target.

At 17 cleric he will still be able to cast level 9 spells. What you give up is the crappy capstone and 3 caster levels of cleric for everything above. At this level I expect him to be just as powerful of a healer as my pure cleric, if not better due to extra survivability.

Mid levels the weakness in the way I implemented the build is having low caster levels and being unable to access spells like protection from fire, remove curse etc at the appropriate level. You won't have this problem because you are going Paladin so much later in the game where I took the 3 Pal level firsts. Easy to make up for the shortcomings by carrying wands and using cleric hirelings. On the other hand a feared or sleeping cleric cant heal much anyways.

But, the build is designed to duo or solo and not be a group main healer anyways. I still plan on taking extend spell at 3pal/3clr and empower healing at 3pal/6clr at which point I expect him to start becoming more of a respectable healer and less of a harbor special.
