    Default Error on launch "System.Reflection.TargetInvocationException"

I have downloaded the DDO Unlimited play for free game, installed it, and have run in to problems when launching. I've tried launching the various launchers with the same effect. Initially, I found a screenshot here with the same issue... related to loading a font, I believe. I reinstalled that font. Now I get another, very similar error message, which starts out:

System.Reflection.TargetInvocationException: Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation. ---> System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an in stance of an object.

    at System.Drawing.Font..ctor(SerializationInfo info, StreamingContext context)
--- End of inner exception stack trace ---

    <continues for 14 more lines>

So, does anyone have any hints or solutions? I am very eager to try out the game... am looking for an alternative to WoW. Please help or point me in the right direction.

    Thanks!

I'd double check your "Add or Remove Programs" (XP) or "Uninstall a Program" (Vista) control panel option for:

    Microsoft .Net Framework 1.1
    and
Microsoft .Net Framework 1.1 Hotfix (KB####)

(The game needs both 1.1 and the 1.1 "service pack" to be installed)

If they're both listed try uninstalling them starting with 1.1 and then the "hotfix" and downloading and reinstalling them from the links below (if only one is listed uninstall just that one and then reinstall both):

    Microsoft .Net Framework 1.1
    The 1.1 Service Pack (Hotfix)

If it keeps up definitely open a support request.

Smile Launcher error fixed for me

    Hi

I had the exact same error and thought it was something to do with Windows 7 then I found this fourm and wondered about the fonts as they had been "odd" lately. One of my kids had put of copy of Left4Dead on my PC and I removed it but didnt notice a change in the fonts at the time or didnt link to two (thanks google for putting me on the path).

When you uninstall Left4Dead it can remove needed registry entries for Windows fonts. The following are the fonts that you will find are missing. Copy and paste this into a file with a .reg extension and all of your font problems should go away and the launcher should work (or at least get rid of that error).

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Fonts]
    "Tahoma (TrueType)"="tahoma.ttf"
    "Courier New (TrueType)"="cour.ttf"
    "Verdana (TrueType)"="verdana.ttf"
    "Arial (TrueType)"="arial.ttf"
    "Arial Narrow (TrueType)"="arialn.ttf"
    "Arial Bold (TrueType)"="arialbd.ttf"
    "Lucida Console (TrueType)"="lucon.ttf"
    "Trebuched MS (TrueType)"="trebuc.ttf"
    "Times New Roman (TrueType)"="times.ttf"
    "Marlett (TrueType)"="marlett.ttf"

    Hope this helps someone.

I can confirm that this did in fact work to resolve my problem with not being able to launch the game. All i did was search for a file with a .reg extension and copied those lines in, ran the .reg file and bingo, the D&D works for me now :P ty for this info

I also ran into this issue and this fixed it as well.
When uninstalling software it changed one of these font names in the registry. Changing it to what was listed above fixed the launcher error and I can now play again.
    yyaaaahhh !!!

    Default HELP please...

I'm having a terrible time with this. I don't know where the .reg extension is. You make it sound simple and I don't know even where to go to do this. Can someone help me? Where is the source?

Now I found where you need to copy and paste...but I don't know how to do that...like I know how to copy and paste, but it won't let me copy and paste into the Fonts folder under the registry editor. WHY IS THIS SO COMPLICATED!?

The instructions are: "Copy and paste this into a file with a .reg extension"

    Launch notepad (start>run>notepad)
    copy this data:
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Fonts]
    "Tahoma (TrueType)"="tahoma.ttf"
    "Courier New (TrueType)"="cour.ttf"
    "Verdana (TrueType)"="verdana.ttf"
    "Arial (TrueType)"="arial.ttf"
    "Arial Narrow (TrueType)"="arialn.ttf"
    "Arial Bold (TrueType)"="arialbd.ttf"
    "Lucida Console (TrueType)"="lucon.ttf"
    "Trebuched MS (TrueType)"="trebuc.ttf"
    "Times New Roman (TrueType)"="times.ttf"
    "Marlett (TrueType)"="marlett.ttf"
    Paste into notepad
save the file as fontfix.reg (not .txt) control panel>folder options>hide known file extensions will need to be unticked.
double-click the file - it will ask if you want to import it - click ok.
