Ok, I am new to this game. I started by downloading and playing. I played the opening dungeon and everything was fine. Then I got the island downloaded and it ran fine. Then I waited all day to download the game and after the server selection the screen goes black and stays that way indefinately. I really want to play, can anyone help me?

Try running the "Validate & Repair" from the options menu in the main "Turbine Download Manager" screen.

After contacting support, log into your email webpage to add noreply@turbine.com and accountsupport@turbine.com to their "safe senders" list and your contacts list/address book. Be sure to check Spam/Junk Mail folders as well since most email providers do not let external email programs or cell phones download mail flagged this way.
