    Default How Is Loot Determined?

Could someone please provide a rundown on how random loot (for example from chests) is determined in DDO? Does it depend on your level? The recommended level for the quest? The difficulty level you select when entering the quest? And, are there other factors I'm missing entirely? Thanks.

The quality of loot depends on the quest level, as chest level is quest level -3. hard adds one level to the quest and elite adds two. If you are more than 4 levels below the chest level (eg, 7 levels below the quest), you will get a degraded list.

You will also get a degraded list if you have opened the chest more than 8 times in the last week, the timer resets one week to the minute after your first open.

End chests from bosses are frequently +1 level to the rest of the quest; end rewards are +1 level from the quest's base difficulty (eg, the end rewards are always of the quality of chest drops on hard, unless its a special end reward list like quest chains / etc).

Due to this math, it will take you until you are running quests in the level 5-6 range to start getting loot above the level 1-2 loot table; there is huge variation in this lowest level loot table, between magic items, non-magic items and utter trash

To start finding minimum level 2 and 4 weapons/armor, you will need to be running at least level 5-6ish quests (later parts of tangleroot, or delera's quality questing).

It's based on your diplomacy score.

Difficulty level of Quest is primary factor. Both in Quest and End Rewards are random, however, in Gameplay - under Options - you can set End Rewards Based on Class. Then you will get a reward list based of your class, or highest if a MC build.

Various things can effect your loot. Repetition and diminishing returns would be the biggest factors. The more often you repeat a quest and open a chest the 'level' of the chest will drop until you hit Ransack - then you have to wait for the timer to reset and I think that is a week.

Loot level from a chest is not the same as the level of the Quest.

Some store items can increase the level of loot by +1.

    Hope this is somewhat helpful.

It's totally true, I have a reliable source. You better reroll now.

I believe Ransack is at 10 (not 8) within a single week on a single chest. Diplomacy has no effect, that's just an old joke that some people still find funny. In your settings, I believe the default is that your loot is somewhat class related. You can uncheck that option for more random results.

Actually that's the maximum chest level. Not all chests in a given quest are at the max level.
