    Default Weeping Handwraps

    Hi folks.
There don't seem to be terribly many handwraps that aren't just a straight plus dropping, and the only guaranteed loot piece I am aware of is the Weeping Handwraps. With the Devout Handwraps having missed making the loot tables in this current update, I'm pretty sure that's the only Static Loot.

I had a hard time getting my hands on them, so I figured I'd be nice and post about it.
The page linked above lists them as being inside Captain Gurdal's Chest. That puts them inside the Captives quest, right here: http://ddowiki.com/page/The_Captives

However, after running the quest 75 million times, I became frustrated. ddowiki.com lists the handwraps on their page, but lists an optional boss named Captain Guldag instead of Gurdal. I thought this was a typo.

So without further ado, here's what you a-do.

Park your low level monk right outside the c-hills.
Group up with a higher level character who has done this quest on hard.
Higher level character enters quest ON ELITE, jumps off cliff towards the first little island, and kills what is there.
If Captain Gurdal is there, monk starts running to the quest. Otherwise, player recalls out of quest, monk leaves group (from outside the hills) and rejoins, and player enters again.

The wraps are bind to character, not account, and it appears that the proper named boss only spawns on elite (roughly 40% of the time?). The chest is not a 100% chance to drop (maybe 10-20%), so it might take a few tries to do this. Being that you can cliff jump and your monk can reset the quest without the other player having to leave the hills, the longest wait is just running your monk out there to get to the chest. PROTIP: other player should loot as well, and try to pass wraps over to monk instead of taking for himself.

So... while useful handwrap drops seem to be horrible, and there's no "nicked" handwraps out there, here's the best way to get +2 sonic handwraps on your little baby monk. Enjoy.

    Awesome tip, thank you.
I was getting frustrated on Cannith on my new Monk, having repeated this quest about 12+ times now trying for these things (and having killed the named at that first island over 7 times), but was always in on normal/hard setting.

Elite only is interesting, and I had thought of that actually but hadn't bothered testing it out.
+2 handwraps with d6 sonic damage are about as good as it gets for Monks for handwraps pre-level 10ish.

Unless you're interested in the +1 Acid Handwraps that I saw on the auction house on Argo. For roughly 1.675 million gold.

    ROLLEYES.

Default I could be wrong but....

Almost 100% positive one of my low level alts looted these wraps on normal. It was my first time through the quest and was on a level 3 toon so I know it was not elite.

May be the case, but regardless this week, I've gone through the quest some 20 times on normal/hard and found a *different* guy that spawns there occasionally, and on elite I've seen the *correct* guy spawn there only, and at least every other time I've gone in.

If you get that lucky, and then are lucky enough to loot the wraps (not in every chest), that's awesome. I may have had a statistically horrendous run at the quest, but not on elite.

Definitely see your point on which is more statistically advantageous. Bummer is that I picked them up on a non monk character Typical of my luck though.

Oh thats where I got them. I wondered.

Naturally they are on my ranger.

Did some further testing in Captives lastnight.
6 entries on Elite - named was up 4 out of the 6 times, but all 4 times it was Guldag. No sign of Gurdal.

So it would seem that even on Elite, there is only a *chance* of the right named spawning on that island, unless he can also spawn further into the quest. However, I didn't venture past the first gate to inspect this. And I know there are other nameds further in, although I'm not sure if he has a chance at spawning elsewhere other than the first island.

I would imagine it is theoretically possible for him to spawn on any difficulty level. He's just very, very rare. At least in my experiences.

For what it's worth, I've now tried this quest over 25 times on Cannith, and saw/killed Guldag about 15 of those 25 times. Best I got from him was +2 handwraps on hard setting. No sign of Gurdal.
So on a quest that only has a very small chance of the rare named spawning, and then only a *chance* at him dropping the weeping handwraps, I'd say don't waste your time. Those odds are actually worse than doing a raid 20 times. At least those you tend to have a good end-reward list in your favour.

Shame that they put in such nice low-level handwraps with such a low % of getting them, when the nicked weapons are almost *guaranteed* after Come out and Slay, and also as a final reward from the Sharn Syndicate series. One pass through the series and I easily outfitted my monk with twin +1 shock kamas.
    /sigh

    That's pretty weird stuff.
I hit it with a right-leveled character on normal and hard, and did not find him.
I then "farmed" normal about 4 more times to see if he would spawn, and he did not. Just the other G-name.

I then hit it with a higher level character, a bunch of times, and only found his 'place holder'.

Then, I hit it on elite with that same character, and in I believe 6 runs, he showed up 4 times, right there on the first island if you jump straight off the cliff where you're facing (also, the other G-name did not show up). On the fourth chest, I looted the handwraps and realized they do not transfer in your account bank.

Then I parked my monk and had a friend run it. On elite, he had the same experience. Spawned about half the time, the other named did not spawn on the island. Wasn't lucky with the chest, and then ran off to go slaughter some other things, but will go back to get the handwraps (even though I got some nice ones from a friend now).

PS: Yeah, I was using twin nicked kamas. I just really wanted to go unarmed. I found more on the AH yesterday, but it still sucks that there are not many in the way of static rewards, and from what I understand, there's still prefix/suffix bugs.

Does anyone know if Gurdal actually still spawns?

Been running this quest over 50 times now on all difficulty settings, and I am yet to see Gurdal (not Guldag) even ONCE.

Only thing I havent tried yet is getting a highlvl char to help me, the way the OP suggests (did try the trick though, just with me as the one jumping off the cliff in sneak and then recalling) Dunno if having a very high lvl toon in there does the trick.

I ran the captives yesterday on my ranger. A friend of mine was on his fighter, we also had a monk in our group... We were running it on elite, and both me and the fighter got the weeping wraps from the first chest, the monk didn't get them... They are bind on aquire, so I just reserved them to the monk, since I wasn't going to use them on my ranger. I guess that chest is just a random loot table, and not affected by the "base end reward on class" checkbox, but it seems odd that both a ranger and fighter got those wraps, while the monk got a +2 dwarven axe.

We just went in the quest, and jump off the side to the left, the guy was right there on that first little island on elite.

We were level 7's, just doing it for favor, we killed him so fast that I didn't get a chance to see what his name was lol.

Thank you. Wonder if the avg party lvl really does have an effect on his spawnrate.

I was probably just extremely unlucky, but ugh, was getting hairpullingly frustrating

I got mine in 25 minutes:

Step 1: get feather cloak from korthos Island

Step 2: Enter captives, jump off the left, if boss is there kill it loot chest

Step 3: if wraps are not in chest, or boss did not spawn, finish out wait 5 minutes for reset, reapt step 2-3.

I got mine on normal and my friend got a set on hard.

on Cannith monk wraps were just silly expensive.

Oh no I hear ya, I'm now at 16 water works runs , no widow bracers, well I did find them once, on my warrior =/

I just want to let you know they do drop on normal, and while it might be a pain, it is completely worth it, as sonic damage monk wraps, +2 are worth the effort.

Default Farming on Normal and totally unlucky

Farming Guldag on normal is very easy, especially if you wait until level 4 so the fall to the island doesn't hurt you 100% of the time...however because I had horrible luck, I can never loot the wraps unless someone passes them to me. I've gotten Guldag on Hard now, but the chest is still empty.
