whats all my WF going to do with Fish?
Now if my barbarian can weild a Fish in one hand and a halfling in the other we'll be in business. Nothing like doubling fisting a kobold in the face with a healthy serving of fish n midgets.

Hi,
Game X has Y... why doesn't DDO have Y. I like Y but for some reason don't play Game X.

If they have taco trucks, do they serve fish tacos? See if we had fishing AND taco trucks, we could all sell our freshly caught game to yon local taco truck and make some serious copper.
Or, there is always EverQuest II where you will probably actually find fishing and taco trucks.
To hunt beside a brother is the best of times.
Sure why not. 100 Turbine Points to unlock. Otherwise not seeing anyone buying it or them bothering to develop it. And LOTRO has it and it is pretty lame.

Does it need to have a purpose? Is there no room in your conception of the game for fun in game pastimes that can act as an in game break/distraction from questing?
We have zero non questing related time sinks. None. Many gamers, both MMO players and DnD players, like non questing related activities. This is a thing the game is missing.
Combine this, hunting, gambling, tavern games, and the like with housing(trophies and such) and you have something that a huge number of players would be interested in. The fact that you are not interested in it isn't terribly important next to the fact that many other people are.
Also, @ the thread: It's irrelevent that WoW has fishing. A player wanting to fish in DDO has nothing to do with WoW. The fact that WoW has fishing and he wants to fish is not a good reason for him to pay 15 bucks a month to play WoW. The fact that you like neither WoW nor fishing is not a good reason to ignore an easy to impliment time sink that will be fun for a good number of players.

All that is gold does not glitter, Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither, Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken, A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken, The crownless again shall be king.
Meh it was fun in swg to try and catch fsih for you tank to show off to people but here dont see the point in it.
Beware the Sleepeater
Funny you should mention that... because the game was designed to not have non-quest related time sinks.
It's not missing, it is omitted by choice.
Most of us who really enjoy this game enjoy the fact that when we log in we don't hit up guildies or friends for an adventure only to be told, "I'm crafting a storage box for my new character, I only need to gather a few more Oak Branches for materials and then I'll craft it quick. I should be done in about an hour."
So the fishing/gathering/eating and other sundry time wasters were left out. Notice the crafting here is from questing, even the collectible crafting on the Marketplace stone.

Not a moot point at all.
If I want to play a game that has 40-man-raids I don't ask that the current game add it in, I go find one.
If I want to have Chariot Racing and/or Mounts I go play a game that has such in it instead of demanding it be added.
If I want to play a First Person Shooter I don't buy Majhong Hits 3.

Fish oil (kinda like ham oil).
...as one example.
edit:
Finished reading thru the thread.
Man, what happened to all the folks who used to play D&D? You know, that game most of us used to play where we played the persona of a character, and roleplayed them thru a life?? I know, there were some campaigns around that weren't much more than, "Here, fight the monsters on page 25 of the MM. Okay, now fight the monsters on page 116 of the MM. Okay, now fight the monsters on page..." But most weren't that way.
See what I mean?
No, DDO is not PnP D&D. But it could sure be a little closer with a little between-battles fluff.

D&D
Player: "I think I would like to try my hand at fishing."
DM: "Ok... so... net? Pole?"
Player: "Fishing Pole. I'll fashion one with my woodworking skill."
DM: "Roll it."
Clattering dice
DM: "Ok, good. Roll Wilderness Survival."
Clattering Dice
DM: "So after a few hours you catch several nice Trout for dinner." He turns to Player 2, "What are you doing during that time?"
We have the same thing in DDO only it goes like this:
Player: "Ok guys, I am beat for the night, Logging off now, imagine I wandered off to catch dinner."
These things have always been "off screen" in RPGs with every GM I have played with. We don't actually RP finding bait, baiting the hook, tossing in the line, waiting-waiting-waiting for a strike, setting the hook, working the fish to bring it in. Right?

ZOMG! I love Zin's Tacos!!!!
PS: If they introduce fishing, gambling and housing then I'm willing to bet on a cold day in hell that they'll allow me to TP Store Purchase my very own Charlotte and place her in my house to dance and play strip poker.
Really? Why is there a Suggestion section here? I would guess to make suggestions. So maybe, I don't know, genius, people are suggesting things they would like to see? I don't think they are "demanding it". Sounds like you are another typical naysayer/know-it-all. You'd probably make a great guild leader.
...and I would love ANYTHING to do when I cant get a quest going. Fishing would be a good time-killer. The fishing system in LOTRO wasn't all that great when I played it a year or two ago but I still had fun doing it when I had noone to kick it with. There are so many great spots, too. Ataraxia. The Vale. The little dark pond by the vampire talisman collector in House J. The marketplace fountain. So many...
