    Default Monks and TWF

I have a pure monk that has taken twf/itwf/gtwf and was told that while using handwraps that the twf was applied.

Now, I started a monk on cannith to play around with a different monk. I am going twf with this one as well. I didnt have anything better to take than tw defense.

While using 2 kamas, I received the ac bonus, when using handwraps I did not.

It stands to reason that if handwraps are considered twf, then twd should be considered also.

ALSO, I have a Cleric Tempest build with 2 monk lvls as well that is a twf. I wanted to check if the whirling blade thing (the new shield bonus for tempests) was applied when using handwraps, it is not. This means to me that when using handwraps I am not getting the bonus to swing speed that a tempest is supposed to.

Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

Your observations are in accordance with the published documentation.

A monk with TWF feats gains extra attacks while unarmed. But he is not holding two weapons, so he doesn't qualify for bonuses which require dual wieldings like TWD or Tempest.

    Just wanted to make sure.
Have a build that needs to be thought about a little more now.
    Thanks.

    One more question...

If you go the tempest route but use handwraps, does the swing speed boost that tempests get apply to the handwraps as well.

I get that the feats dont work, just want to make sure about this.

I believe it partially stacked previously, but wasn't supposed to and was/is a known bug.
I haven't tested in mod 9 whether or not that has been fixed.

But suffice to say, Tempest requires you to be dual-wielding.
Technically speaking, you don't dual-wield handwraps, even though you do get the bonus attacks from the TWF tree. If that makes sense.

It would still be useful if you're aiming for a dual kamas monk. But if you go handwraps, I'd suggest staying pure.

the tempests speed swing increase only works with weapons. unless i am mistaken, unarmed doesnt count as weapons.

I don't think so. Tempest works on two weapon fighting, and unarmed combat (which included handwraps) doesn't technically count as two weapons.. the TWF line has just kinda been shoehorned into flurry of blows to add in some extra attacks for the monks that pick it up.. they're not technically using two handed fighting.

Though probably one of the ranger/monk splash builds out there would be better to answer your question - you'd probably be better off posting the question in the ranger forum...

    No.

Edit: I really should refresh pages that have been sitting open in a distant tab for more than a few minutes before posting responses.

Im looking at a weird build, which kind of sums up alot of my builds

Swing speed is a big part of it, so Im just trying to get it all figured out so I can decide what Im going to do for boss fights/portals, and what will do the most damage based on speed and all.

    Thanks for the responses.
