No sound at all

Simple as that. I'm getting 0 sound at all from the game, all sliders at full, whereas every other program on my computer has sound working fine.

I see that the problem probably lies in the dropdown box for sound playback, where the only option is "None", and I have no idea why. I've searched the forums a bit, and found out that going into the My Documents/DDO/userpreferences.ini file will help figure this out, and the sound setting is set to OpenAL, and I have no idea what that means.

My sound card has the LATEST drivers and they're definitely not corrupt, also on WinXP.

Can anyone help?

go to options then audio make sure you have proper device selected for use, then use scroller and do the same for other audio option there.

Err... that's not a very helpful reply. Options where? I already said that the only option available in the Sound Playback dropbox was "None", so how does that help me?

I had a similar problem with no sound at all and then having 'none' in the audio playback options. I have an old machine (circa 2003 with a few new insides) with an even older Creative Audigy 2 sound card...nothing worked for me until I installed the latest drivers for it. In an unexpected change of events, I found drivers dated June 09 that worked with it. After that, all of my options appeared (generic hardware / software / audigy 2) in the playback option drop down, and the sound was fine.

So you might have a driver problem; my sound worked fine on everything else except this. Once the new drivers went in, then that made it work.

But after reinstalling and running TurbineRegisterGDF.exe, I'm back in w/out sound. Sound is working perfectly for EVERYTHING ELSE on my win7 64 b7100 box, specs/dxdiag above.

No sound in game, but sound for a sec then no sound for a sec continuously during the intro. Doubt it helps but it's a small step for ati 3000/4000, I guess.

Am trying to run the sound of AC'97 realtek latest drivers. But it gives me the 'Playback Audio Devices' Drop box with nothing in it. So am in with this crowd, but only in game audio does not work at all. The intro movies plays audio but nothing else.

Try renaming your userpreferences.ini file, and launch the client so it will recreate a default one. It worked with a friend of mine that had a wrong audio config in his file

As Ivan says, it maybe worth resetting the userpreferences.ini file:

1) Make sure that the game isn't running.
2) Goto your Documents or My Documents folder and you should find a "Dungeons and Dragons Online" folder.
3) Open the folder and rename the "userpreferences.ini" file to "olduserpreferences.ini".
4) Restart the game and it should recreate the userpreferences file and give you default settings in the game.

I have the same problem. Under "sound playback" it simply reads "None" as the only option. I have tried renaming userpreferences.ini, reintsalling the whole game, and updating my realtek hd audio drivers. None of those things worked. I wonder if the game is looking in the wrong place for my audio devices. I my os is not installed on the c: drive but e: drive. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with this problem.

Having a similar issue on my Vista 64bit machine. I noticed I was not getting any voice chat in group, opened in game options and disabled/re-enabled the voice chat and checked that the sliders and drop downs were looking correct. Still nothing for voice, quit game and logged back in. Now have no sound at all. It has worked great for the last 3 weeks, now nothing. No hardware or even software changes in that time. I've nuked my userprefs, I've uninstalled the game and deleted all traces I could find and reinstalled. Nothing, nothing, nothing.

For the record, my dropdowns in the audio options have available options (Generic Out on speakers, digital out) and they are set to the correct item (generic out on speakers), as they have always been since I started playing. I can run DDO in windowed mode and listen to mp3s on winamp while I play, but I'd really, really rather listen to the game, and the voices of the people I'm grouped with.

Is there anyway to completely blow away any hardware settings the game might be using and force it to reinit?

Well I finally came back to give debugging sound another try and got it after fiddling w/my playback device.

Pretty sure it was a combo of turning off Enhancements and also allowing applications to take exclusive control of the device and to give exclusive mode apps priority. Also on that same panel, I reduced audio to cd quality.

Forgot how I got ATI to appear instead of none, but it was somewhere under playback devices, etc. It was already set as the default device.

ivanmadman and tarkafunk are right.

I had the very same problem, tried running ddo, had no sound, and nothing in the playback options.
Renamed the ini file in c:\Users\(your user name)\Documents\Dungeons and Dragons Online\ from UserPreferences.ini to UserPreferences.old, started the game up and it created a new ini file with default settings, which worked.

You'd have to set all your other settings back to what they were, but im sure that shouldnt be a problem.
