Default POSSIBLE FIX for game crashing on load

I've seen the 8 million threads on this subject, cause I was having the exact same problem. None of the other suggestions helped. Till I fixed it.

When you start the game, when it's asking for login info, you'll see that DDO creates a System Tray icon (looks like a red disc). Right-click it, choose Options. In the repair tab, choose the option to reset your video settings. Accept your changes, then log in.

When the game is about to start, it'll ask if you're sure you want to reset your video settings, say yes, et voila. You're in the game.

Worked for me, hopefully it works for you..

    Vista x86, GF 8600GTS SC.

I get NO "red icon" on-in system tray; just the Dungeons & Dragons Online in the taskbar, to the right of Start (Wxp pro sp2 32bit).
I click the DDO Unlimited icon the install placed on desktop ("E:\games\DDO Unlimited\dndlauncher.exe") and that brings up the username/password popup. But there is nothing down in the system tray (lower right side of taskbar bottom of display).
? Where in the DDO folder is the file we can initiate to bring to that "options" where we can correct now wrong graphics settings.

I am now getting (after entering the username/password) an error popup:
    GameError [122]
redX No suitable graphics device was found. Are you running through a remote session or a VM? If not, please check your video hardware. [122] OK

I noticed from playing yesterday the game changed my display res to 1024x768 (from 1400x1050). I changed it back to the normal 1400x1050 this AM, now even adjusting the desktop back to 1024x768 still brings this new GameError [122] popup that closes the initiation for accessing the servers.

edit, i just noticed in the username/password popup, it's top right corner icons for Access the Launcher menu, Switch to compact mode, Minimize the main launcher window, and Exit the launcher.
I selected access the launcher menu and there was Options, Explore screenshot folder and About...
Selected Options/Repair and checked reset game display settings.
Am now trying to start game again (desktop res is 1400x1050)
Nope still getting that 122 error.

yesterday i was only getting the 122 error, today, this AM i can log and play just fine. No changes to my system except opened up the tower case and cleaned out some dust... there was ALOT of dust stuck to the fan blades (the cpu fan, the exhaust fan on the back of the tower case and some dust on the gpu fan attached to the ati 1950pro 256MB) Also toothbrush and vacuumed the dust within the heatsink blades atop the cpu (AMD x2 64 3800+) and on and arround the memory chips on the ddr1 stick closest to the cpu.

Previously my system /cpu used to run at 30 to 35*C, the last couple of nights they been running at 40 to 47*; atm it is running at 34*. 1400x1050 pixel res.
My next buiold i will have replacable filters at the air inlets... been eying the newer i7 130W cpu! but insist on way cheaper than the us$1,000 retail esp since the 3GHz AMD x2 are about us$100.

ps. the dxdiag ran fine no problems found trying the two sets of gpu dx test before trying to play DDO. I was able to log-in and play just fine 2 or 3 days ago, just yesterday was getting the 122 error, now today again can log-in and play with no problems, even soloed an elite instance in the nooby town with my cleric i rolled today.

122 usually indcates the game cannot detect that the card supports a graphics option it requires (Hardware Transform & Lighting, Direct3D etc). Post your dxdiag (steps how in the "how to get help" sticky linked in my sig) but also make sure that your systems graphics card supports either of these settings.
