Oh wow. What temperature does / did your GPU get to when you play games? Other than DDO that is, since that's now crashing on startup.

BCCode 116/117 are graphics related, usually. Either drivers, or in some cases failing hardware. If you google for it you can find evidence of both driver issues and "hardware about to die" issues.

9700M is virtually identical to 9600M, which has known hardware defects. See also here: http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/...-bump-material

It isn't just MacBooks that were affected, btw. If you have one of those X305 where GPU temps go up to 95-100C, as in previous linked forum post, then a slowly dying GPU may well be what you're facing.

I'm hoping this is just "DDO doesn't like your drivers", and not hardware after all. Still, better to be safe than sorry: Do you still have warranty on your laptop? I'd check temperatures and check in with Toshiba on an RMA.

About 2 years and a bit, or just coming up to 2 years? That model has a "2-Yr Standard Limited Warranty (1-Yr on Battery)". If you hustle, you may just get yourself an RMA still.

Did you get a chance to check your GPU temperatures when playing 3D games?

Both. Rivatuner has it, go to Target Adapter, Customize, Hardware Monitoring - looks like a chip with a magnifying glass on it. You should see "Core Temperature" in degrees C. If temp isn't there, you can add by clicking the "Setup" button in that screen and choosing temp as an additional data source.

There's also a sidebar gadget called "GPU Monitor". Setting that up is slightly involved, as you need to configure Rivatuner to export its monitor data. The gadget has a pretty good help page that walks you through it.

i downloaded rivatuner and gpu temp at rests holds around 50-55C
when playing ddo it only gets to around 65C and then crashes..so its not a temp issue i think.

Got nothing new to add. You're getting a blue screen with an error that typically means either driver issues or hardware trouble. You can try and figure out which it is, or move on.

On the plus side, the X305-Q711 has two graphics chips - one for regular desktop work, and one for 3D. Should the worst happen and this is hardware-related, you can still sell the laptop on as a 2D-only solution.

What kind of temperatures do you see in other games, btw, where the GPU can do some work and doesn't just crash right away?

So far this new soft-update seems to be working better than the 195 or 197 drivers.
just played ddo with no crash for about 2 hrs, going to test it on AoE3 and borderlands on my lvl 50 soldier. knoxxxxxxxxxxxx!

Decided to add to the pile. I'll play the game for maybe 30 minute to an hour and then randomly the game completely crashes and turns my screen black. I cant ctrl+alt+delete or escape without shutting my computer down.

Angry Customer Service Please Do Something

OK, so since many a number of players (who can't even play) are experiencing this, why hasn't the developers send a Customer Service representative yet? >

I haven't gotten into the game yet ever since I had it installed!

    Good question.

I have opened two Turbine tickets and both times they were pretty useless. Telling me to upgrade sound drivers when my video disconnects, but sound is stil working? Really? I did it anyways, no luck.

I have updated every driver on my monster machine. I have reinstalled the game twice - once HD, and once not.
I have dumbed teh graphics settings down so much that it almost looks like I am playing Pong.
I have unplugged every USB device I have and goen back to ps/2 (weak). I removed 1/2 of my RAM.
    I have run RAM tests.

Stil black screen. I applied the latest patch, hoping it solved the problem - game crashed my video even sooner, and with no warning.

Don't tell me it is my hardware or that I should talk to another vendor. The only thing that has EVER crashed my system is DDO. When I am not gaming, I run 13 Virtual machines on this monster, while listening to music, IM Chat, Surfing web, and the VMs are running all kinds of intensive testing. No lag, no crash. I run several other games with no issue.

So, take responsibility and look into this.

Monitor was crashing to black on load of character selection screen but now running like a charm:

    Before it was working again:
Run dxdiag from the RUN box in start menu to see what version of directx was running: DX11
    Updated video card drivers: Success
Tested main display on another machine: No issues
    Updated motherboard drivers: Success
Tried to roll back ActiveX to 10.1: Fail (you need to reinstall the OS to accomplish this)
    Uninstalled all games: Success
Reinstall DDO several times & configs: Fail
Flash BIOS: Fail (Update available but CMOS on my machine is protected by a motherboard jumper and online instructions were conflicting so I bailed.)
Turn off all non-essential processes & services via msconfig & services.msc: Fail

(none of the above made any difference at all)

Talk to geek squad guys RE: My next plan: Success (the guy actually agreed with my plan and concerns - wow!)

Purchase new video card (Radeon HD 5670 to replace Radeon HD 4850): Success!
Purchase Win7 upgrade in case my plan failed: Success!

Install new card: Stunning success! Remarkably easy compared to the hacking hell I have been living!

Removed spouse's problems with other stuff crashing: Success! Major success

Very nice card we have now. Playing DDO is like watching Blueray. No stutters, no issues.

    Ready to kill the baddies...

Root cause: Vista decided to upgrade me to DX11. My old video card does not support DX11 (and/or the video card was shot after only 18 months in service).

Now to return the unopened Win 7: was not required

    Default Solved

I DID THIS AND SOLVED RIGHT WAY

(Windows) This can occasionally be related to the game trying to locate system files related to the Visual C++ installation and not finding them. As a test try downloading and installing C++ manually via the download here (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/down....aspx?id=26999) , (use the vcredist_x86.exe when given the option to choose what download) however if that installer fails with any error then open the 'Uninstall a Program' list in the control panel and in there look for all listings of "Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable". Clicking on each in turn if you find one which lists in its details as being Version: 8.0.50727.762 then uninstall that and then repeat the attempt to install 10.0 SP1 from the vcredist_x86.exe file.
