yeah apparently this is an ongoing thing, across multiple OS's. I have been trolling the threads on this topic for a solution but I think we're on our own right now.

Disable UAC in control panel>user accounts
If that doesn't do it, try underclocking your gpu as well. It worked for me. uc'd from 875-790 and the game started working. I'm on vista x64 ultimate btw.

    my video card is stock.
As usual UAC is the first thing on a new vista/win7 build that needs to go. I'm running Win7 x64 Pro RTM. very similar to your vista x64 OS. I just disabled it so we'll see. It may take a couple days to determine if that's the problem, as this issue doesn't always happen. sometimes the game runs fine, sometimes it does not.

I have had this same issue for a while with both types of crashes, after multiple software updates for all drivers and net framework. re installs of most 3rd party software.
especially my nvidia card drivers and Dx10.
My initial problem was I couldnt see the mouse pointer when in fullscreen... simple fix.. if you cant see the mouse try switching to a windowed mode. if your screen is black youre screwed..get a new pc.

First, if you are running any recent copies of updated Vista home or Pro you have to run all applications in the install folder as admin and in XP Sp2 compatability mode. DO NOT CONFIGURE GRAPHICS IN GAME, as this will activate the bug and crash your pc or turbine. or so it seems for me
you can do this by the compatability tab in the properties window for the application icon. in other words right click and go from there. you can also get to the folder directly where all the files are located by right clicking the shortcut you use then selecting "open file location" mmmkay. then include all forms like dnd client/launcher and turbine/elevator/evoker/launcher/register.. I also set these to run as admin.
    Q====~~~
and if you arent already running on the low setting for graphics already bc of these issues...I cant help you....=)

    Second, sabt.

    .

OK I LIED>>>> im still getting the crashes, now more intermittent than ever. like 2-3 mins.

    kinda reminds me of this

    Default working

ok so i got mine to work by fluke i believe i run windows 7 64 bit everything else it kinda low but it can run ddo on high settings its just a regular laptop works only if ur using turbine
ok so from turbine u make sure ddo vid settings resets to default
after that get the properties of the short cut set to disable desktop composition
then go to the turbine manager then do validate/repair
after it finished clean uninstall not regular uninstall but clean then re download using the turbine and it should work and make sure your shortcut is on the desktop thing.

    Same issue here.

Black Screen, but no cursor, its just locked. Running it with admin privileges, latest DX and last stable drivers. HD4850 and i7, 6gig DDR on Vista64. Seems DDO may have issues with ATI cards.

I managed to get in game. I don't know if this is a fluke.

Earlier, I ran a file repair, it found ~250MB missing. I still wasn't able to run the game after this. I just ran a SECOND file repair, it still found ~250MB missing. After that, I restarted my computer and no black screen. I'm at the character selection screen.

Give that a try even if the first file repair didn't work?

You may want to tell people how you did a repair.

It's in the Turbine download manager. Just launch it, instead of clicking play on DDO, click on the arrow and "Validate and repair".

I was having the same BSOD issue as everyone else and I found it it seemed that the in game screen resolution can't match what my monitor is putting out in windows. I used the launcher to reset in game graphics to default, and then the game played. When I started playing around with graphics settings in game, I was fine until I set the resolution to 1920x1080, then it locked up on me. I guess i'll have to check and guess my way to the highest runnable resolution.

    *EDIT*
After more tinkering I have found that by running the game in a window vs. fullscreen, you can run the game at your windows desktop resolution without it crashing. I am using Windows 7 Ultimate with NVidia GEforce 9600GT Card. I don't know if that will help anyone, but that's what I found. To recap:

    1. Go to your desktop screen resolution settings and set them to 1072x680
    2. Open the DDO launcher and make sure that you check the "restore in game graphics to default" under the repair tab
    3. After you login and it asks you "Are you sure you want to reset the in game graphics?" select yes
    4. Hopefully *fingers crossed* DDO should load.

    I hope this helps somebody.

    Post solve my problem

    system stats:
    xp 32bit , nivida 8800gts, onboard sound, 2gig ram, 250gig hd

    * intially i ran it from an account with admin rights - after choosing the the server it would go to black screen.
    * I ended up turning down the hardware accelerator slider one to two notches found under the sound tab of 'dxdiag' .
you need admin right to access 'dxdiag' form the run command window.
    that fix my

*that seem to work so I then a created a non-admin account to use as the play account for this game.
in this enviroment ( same system) it again went blank screen after selecting the server , i could however alt-esc to minimize to my desktop. so I terminated the program. then launched it using the 'run as " administrator account.
this allowed the game to run .
So for now it working as long as I use the 'runas' switch.
