There are a few of us with this issue. Would be nice for some sort of solution.

yeah apparently this is an ongoing thing, across multiple OS's. I have been trolling the threads on this topic for a solution but I think we're on our own right now.

Disable UAC in control panel>user accounts
If that doesn't do it, try underclocking your gpu as well. It worked for me. uc'd from 875-790 and the game started working. I'm on vista x64 ultimate btw.

    my video card is stock.
As usual UAC is the first thing on a new vista/win7 build that needs to go. I'm running Win7 x64 Pro RTM. very similar to your vista x64 OS. I just disabled it so we'll see. It may take a couple days to determine if that's the problem, as this issue doesn't always happen. sometimes the game runs fine, sometimes it does not.

My gpu is factory clocked to 800, I had to drop it 10 mhz below that to get anything besides a black screen and graphics driver crashes. I usually run it in the 860-875 range on the rest of my games. Oddly enough the problems started the first time I changed the resolution in game. I see a disturbing pattern here with what I have read from others. (Sorry about the lack of contractions. I am, for some reason, unable to use apostrophes on this particular type of forum interface because it opens the quickfind bar instead.)

I took someone else's suggestion of disabling UAC and that appears to do the trick for me. I had also tried compatibility mode for XP SP3, but not only did that not help at all but it removed all the DX10 functionality from the game. I'll keep you posted on UAC and whether is helps in the long run.

I am having the exact same problem...

After world selection, I click "play" and the program appears to launch, but the screen goes black and nothing happens. Occasionally I see the windows "working" mouse icon (the whirring circle), but then... nothing.

I am using vista 32 bit, and I've updated all drivers. I've also uninstalled and reinstalled the game using the turbine launcher and the regular hires install package.

Arrg! I was really looking forward to playing this game again!

Is there a particular resolution that is known to work?

This might help! I'm trying 1440x900

I'm having the same problem, although I'm using a 32" LCD TV as my monitor and it has limited resolution support. I set it to 1360x768, because the native resolution is 1366x768 and it may be, in my case at least, that my screen doesn't support the resolution I have chosen. Is there any way to adjust the resolution from outside the game. I couldn't see anything obvious like a config file.

Having the same problem. I get a black screen and I can see the DDO mouse cursor and move it around but nothing happens unless I press enter. Then the window crashes and gives me an error saying something about not being verified or some such. So I ran the repair program in the turbine launcher/downloader and now instead of opening DDO when i click the icon it opens the Turbine launcher and when I click play DDO...nothing at all happens.

I'm running Windows XP media center edition and all drivers are up to date. I downloaded DDO last night to be able to play it today.

I'm having what I think is the same issue. Also, if I hit "escape" once on the black screen after login on any server, I see: "An authentication error occurred. Please try logging in again.". Hitting escape one more time return me to desktop.

Is it the same for everyone else?

I'm on a DMZ, I've disabled my firewall so I know it's not an issue with that.

    I'm running Windows XP SP3, 32bit, Nvidia GT8800.

mine appears to be random, but once it does the only way for me to fix it though is to reboot the machine.

Anyone else getting intermittent DDO lockups as well? I have to admit that my system is overclocked, except for my video card, but I ran 30hours of memtest and another 24hours of cpu stress testing and had no errors whatsoever. NOTHING else locks up the system, and DDO doesn't even get my processor within 10deg celsius of what the stress tests did so I find it hard to believe that it's the overclock.

    Same issue here.

Black Screen, but no cursor, its just locked. Running it with admin privileges, latest DX and last stable drivers. HD4850 and i7, 6gig DDR on Vista64. Seems DDO may have issues with ATI cards.
