    Thumbs down Rubberbanding

Well, evening #1 with DDO Unlimited has been a complete waste of time. I started with the popular Error 201. I was able to work through that with a Verify & Repair run of TDM....everything seemed fine after that, so I made up a character and settled in to play a bit.

And all I get is eternal rubberbanding. After >20 restarts, reboots, power-cycling my modem and router, saying every curse word I know (and I have a respectable repertoire, mind you).....no improvement. I get a maximum of 5 seconds of usable movement before it starts with the rubberbanding. In total over those >20 restarts, I managed to move my character up to the top of the hill -- yeah, right up where the rogue gives you a newbie weapon. After 3 hours of fighting with it, that sucks.

Latency is ~60ms, data rates are good, and I was able to play both the Trial and the Beta previously. I can even play LOTRO without issues. No other lag or connection issues in any programs whatsoever. Download rates for TDM were solid 350-450 KBps so I don't have a throughput issue.

Good news, though: I can access the DDO Store reliably, every time. So I can spend money, but I can't play for more than 5 seconds. Great.

Do I need to go to the DDO Store and buy the "make this game work right" enhancement or something? The "Understanding Lag" sticky appears useless for actually fixing anything. Any ideas?

Anybody else having similar issues, or am I the only lucky one?

It's about a 50/50 proposition now....either I get in and it works fine (yesterday), or I'm simply unable to play due to the rubberbanding (today). Rebooting doesn't seem to help any. Only walking away and coming back the next day does.

Who knows, maybe there is some strange condition on my DSL line that comes and goes. All I know is that this is frustrating, and it ONLY happens with DDO.

    Any solutions would be appreciated.

check the firmware on your router. update it if you have to.

also check the Firewall help thing, you might be getting hung up there...

if your the only system that plays DDO on the network you could Port forward DDO right to your system, though you'll have to set up a Static IP.

    just some ideas

Thanks for the reply. Router firmware is up to date, all the DDO-related exceptions are set up in my firewall. I'll take a looka t port forwarding, but I'm not sure it's a port issue....since half the time (actually, up to about 2/3 of the time now! Yippee!) it works as intended. There's clearly something glitchy about how my system is synching up with the server....maybe you're right and the port forwarding will fix an intermittent issue somehow.
