I think it was a network traffic problem. I restarted it several times (10 - 15), and it was hanging on examine programs, again. After a while it got past that but started to hang on examine game data again. After about 20 minutes, it started the update. Only 3% so far, but at least its progress.

Have the same problem (for several hours now *sigh*).
Sometimes it gives me an "X" on Connect.
Next try it gets stuck at "Examine Programs".
    Did a re-install.
Not it gets permanently stuck at "Examine Game Data".
Was able to play at the start of head start but now
it all went down the drain.
Tried the stickies concerning firewall and the turbineregister,
    but nothing helped.

I had the same problem..what solved it for me was:
    1) Goto "Documents"(vista) or "My Documents"(winxp) folder & then your "DungeonsDragonsOnline" folder
    1) Delete the UserPreferences.ini file in your DungeonsDragonsOnline folder in your Documents/MyDocuments folder
    2) Rerun TurbineLauncher & click "NO" when it asks you to enable Directx10 graphics..game will then work..if not, reboot & try it follow the same steps (it may need a fresh reboot)

It seems Directx10 & the prompter is causing it to hang.. only by disabling Direcrtx10 did it work (after rebooting)

Try it & tell me if it solves it for you

Awesome! Glad it worked for you as I felt your pain as I too was retrying all the other posted solutions for 12+ hours to no avail until I tried deleting the ini file/disabling directx10
