can't open the data files. check that they exist and that you have permission to write to them. the program will now exit.

updated and when i clicked play this is what i got. help pls

Ditto. Used Turbine manager to Download. Tried validate and repair. Option seems to be nonfunctional and does not appear to do anything

yep. all tdm is bugged apparently.

try the repair option on tdm. maybe it works.

I seem to have found the issue, it was the Turbine download manager...it didn't download everything...first time i tried to play it wouldn't let me get past selecting server then i validated and repaired and downloaded 1g of MISSING files from the original download and it let me get to the game screen that loads before you get to the character selection, and right after that it crashed again.

I'm doing this process again to see if i can get to at least the character selection/creation screen.

Turbine your download manager is horrible, it needs a lot of tweaking.

Just getting subscribed to the thread in case theres a solution. Same problem as everyone else. I prepatched yesterday, this morning, error 201. I tried copying the backup files over and instructed in the other thread, no dice.

I'm gonna go play Champions Online.

If you are using the "Turbine Download Manager" install right-click the white "Turbine" icon near the clock and choose the "Validate & Repair" option, let it cycle through that completely before logging in again to test.

201 can sometimes also be permissions based,

For Vista test by disabling UAC temporarily.

Steps to disable UAC

For XP double check your User account in the control panel option, make sure that its listed as "Computer Administrator"

Also to test for permissions corruption or registry issues you create a new XP admin account per the steps here though you want to create a "Computer Administrator" account not a "Limited" one that they have you make there.

Use log off (not switch user) and log off of your current account and log into the new one and test launching the game there.

On Vista and XP also:
Update your antivirus/antispyware applications and then run a complete system scan with them, (just to be sure) and then turn them off also (temporarily) while launching/patching.

Same problem here.
I think the least they could do is give us more 2 days of credit for each credited account. I only payed the vip so I could try to get some nice nicknames for my toons. Been trying to make this work since 8AM.

I right click and see:
Turbine DOwnload Manager
D&D ONline evveron unlimited
--------------
Pause...
Options...
Help
Exit

And in Options, there is no validate and repair.

you actually have to open Turbine Download Manager, and then click on the little down arrow next to D&D Online to get the options for that game, then click Validate and Repair.

I on XP with the same issues...

I am in the process of verify and repair..

Look likes it re downloading the client_*.dat files.. now still have 90min left in the patching...

I verified that I did have have all the client_*.dat files per the knowledge-base article discussing the error 201..

I am one of the few who must not read the forums, cause i did not find out i had to download a new client tell today.. and with all the problems its been nearly 12 hours now i been working on it. Grate you 9 of them been waiting for the dl to happen.

And no of this happen in the beta to me.....
