We offer Perma-Death and Role Playing opportunities, with new groups and themes forming for the launch of Mod 9. Our mains all play on Khyber. Our playerbase run the Gambit of styles of play. Some small groups raid solely, while others run Water Works over and over with rerolls. We in the MAC believe you play your character how you want ... see our forums for more info and a chance to get to know us better.

A message from MAC's first userper, originally posted when he was an officer, and reposted here for any that may be looking for a better description of MAC ...

... I am not the guild leader, just a humble officer. After struggling with how to represent the MAC best in a quick fashion I have decided to post something from our guild forum...something I posted back in Dec of 06, so it is dated.....but I feel very valid..../drum roll

    From the MAC forums:

While reading another thread about growing concerns about recruitment I came to a conclusion/thought/epiphany (yes I know big words) that some people come to these forums to look at and possibly join our band of merry adventurers.......and might want something more then our standard response about who and what we are. Anyway I created this guide for prospective members in mind, but may have use for all of us in MAC. Note: I used a FAQ kinda format to make my point.....all though I haven't had a lot of these questions....but it is still fun.

    What is MAC?
MAC is the Mature adventurers club. We are a group of mature like minded players who enjoy questing with other mature players. We are disciples of Stoney(our fearless leader).

Do you need to be 40 to be in our group?
Hell NO! but you better not act 12 or spoiled or be a "Richard Cranium" Folks under 20 do need to talk to featherstone himself

What is the MAC style of play?
Generally speaking we advocate a slow approach and try to maximize planning and group work...team win sorta stuff.....of course at times we will burn through Water works.....if it is your first time with a quest you should let folks know it so they can adjust their playstyle to make sure they do not ruin your expereince. Mostly I think we stand for TEAM and completing the mission for the TEAM.

What is this concept of TEAM?
Basically you as a member of a group give of yourself all your abilities and resources so the team can win the day. For example I will use a classic DDO situation:

    Typical PUG
Arcane: "I dont want to heal war forged...i am a pure DPS machine meant to do nothing but kill, I can not be bothered with loading a repair spell."

Group: " We need some help keeping our WF tank alive so we can defeat this Big Bad Meanie!"

Arcane: "Im out find another tool to heal your WF" drop group

This is an example of what we do in MAC:

Arcane: Oh we need repair for our WF...np let me load that one minute while i run back to pub.

    group: Thanks bro appreciate.

    30 mins later-----

    Group: "Cheers we win!!!"

I see people running around all looking for loot...does MAC have "loot *****s"?
    Yes Hajo

On a serious note we all like nice gear....typically we all share gear with those who would best be able to use it. This varies from person to person but the norm i would say is goes something like:

Ghaldar: I just pulled a +23 Tome of Utter ownaged I wont use it....anyone want before I sell?

    Keramos: "Yes!"

    Ghaldar: "here you go"

    Keramos: "Thanx!"

    Ghaldar: "no Prob"

Then if noone wants it we sell/auction etc. Usually when i pass gear down I just hope it is used and then passed on to someone else who might need it later.....I think most feel that way

If I die who do I blame?
BabbyDaddy for taking you into invaders
If it was a trap blame Torrentt or Bangum for springing the trap.
If the party wiped as soon as you entered the Dungeon blame Ghaldar for setting the difficulty on Elite.
Party wipe at the Titan will be Surrin's fault.
Beyond the grave runs go poorly....then Belthor forgot to use heal scrolls to keep you alive....
Your party wiped at the end fight in Prison of the Planes........Yup Kinkaid's fault for casting Solid Fog.

Other things that can happen and who to blame:
Your shield melted from bashing rust monsters......your own **** fault for pulling an Astargras!
Are you Lost? If yes you should not have followed Bangum.
Did your car get towed while playing DDO? If yes you can party with Meadbelly
Chains of Flame take 5 hours? If so you must have been in a group with Silvermayne.(or the end boss fell into the Lava AGAIN)

Am I allowed to have fun and make jokes?
Yes as long as the joke is cliche and "SO last year" so we can keep up. Remember we Mature folks often do not keep up with the latest lingo....

Mac Offers Role playing groups. Perma death groups perma death RP etc....Just use forums to set up/find a group to get in. These groups come and go so if you interested post.

We do raids and high level content, we also are rerolling alot so will run through Kobold's Brothers as well with Alts (Ghaldar still needs muckbane so if anyone comes across another.....)

MAC is not a set bunch of rules, but rather a code of mature personal behavior (You know kinda Jedi like....errr more Ewok Jedi...than Yoda Jedi if you get what I am sayin). Respect those as you would like to be respected. Be respectful of people doing new to quests. TEAM before ME. Help others with gear and quest completion(the great thing about this is it usually comes back to you 10 fold).

In order to try to put the spirit and feeling into some sort of post I have tried to use some examples hope it worked. This of course is my vision and feelings about MAC. This by no means is complete I was hoping this would become something others would add too.

I love MAC I have loved it every minute I have been in this guild. Even in party wipe it has been fun. Well every minute accept when I did not have my jump skill high enough (inside joke)

dug up thid oldie, but goodie, from the ddo archives ... dated 08-08-07, inc doc writes ...

What is The Mature Adventures Club (MAC) and why should I join?
A few months after DDO came out I went and bought the game and set up an account. Being an old time D&D player from the early 80s I was looking for that magic feeling I got from playing D&D. I missed the suspense of what behind that door. The thrill of building up my character (now called a toon) and finding that perfect item for him/her to use. Also of outsmarting the DM and his evil twist and turns of an adventure lol.
So I eagerly started playing DDO. Sadly my experience was not at all satisfactory. The groups I joined were nothing more than a bunch of smash and grab teenaged vandals who ran through a dungeon smashing and killing everything in sight giving no thought to the enjoyment or consideration of others. I quit playing for a few months and was going to cancel my account but I decided to give it one more try by finding people who enjoyed the “Old School” style of D&D play.
I made a post looking for old school players who enjoy playing D&D for the excitement of the game and low and behold there were replies to my post. We, the founders of MAC, met the 1st weekend after the 4th of July 2006. After introducing ourselves we started doing the harbor quest and we never looked back. We currently have over 100 members with about 30 hardcore players who are on almost every night. The vision of MAC is to get as close to pen and paper D&D as possible and most importantly, to have fun. Most of us have families and jobs and this is our way of having fun and unwinding from the stress of everyday life.
    Who can join MAC?
MAC has very few “rules” so to speak. One is that members must be at least 20 years of age. Yes, some of us are old and cranky (cough Bangum cough). But this is not a hard and fast rule. We do have members who are younger than 20 but they are the exception. If you are 18ish but still want to join us you must interview with the guild leader (Featherstone) and be placed on a probation membership. We also let the older children of members join but the parent member is responsible for them. Also if you’re a 40 year old adolescent you need not apply (Hint the “Mature” part of our guild name). Also you must keep your toons active, by this I mean you should log on your toon at least every few weeks. Toons that are inactive for 2 months will be removed from the guild list unless you inform an officer that your going to be away (we currently have members in Iraq). Any toon removed from the guild list is not booted from the guild; you are welcome to come back anytime just reapply with an officer. We want to try and keep the guild members list as short as possible with mostly active toons.
These are not “Rules” but are keeping with the spirit of MAC:
Play your toon anyway you want to play him/her.
You can sell items to other members and no one will say anything, but if you give items away you will receive it back ten fold, I guarantee it.
Act like an adult, because we all are.
Guys, leave the “locker room” talk in the locker room. We have many ladies in the guild and one of the few things I will come down hard on is language that would make them uncomfortable. In other words, don’t say anything you would not say in front of your mother or sister. (But I also understand when a $#@!^* slips out, no ones perfect :>)
We will help out people who are new to DDO. No one will call you a noob if you have questions or you do something dumb during an adventure that get everyone killed. That’s what makes it fun.
    HAVE FUN!
There are many others that you will discover after joining us, to many to mention here.
So is MAC the guild for you? If you took the time to read all this it just might be. To join just go to your social panel, click the Who tab, sort by guild name, find a member and send them a tell and they will put you in contact with an officer who will give you a short interview and a guild invite.
If you have question or want more information you can find us at our web site here:

DDO is my first and only experience with a MMOG. After discovering the game and leveling a character thru the 3rd level via solo questing, I started to see the necessity of having a team of players to quest with. After doing some research on the DDO forums, I determined that the MAC guild was the way to go. Joining was simple. I was a bit nervous about my first contact with a member, but I found a member in the Wayward Lobster and struck up a conversation. I’m sure it was as awkward for him as it was for me, as I would send a tell, and then forget to put my cursor in the box and my character would start jumping and running from hitting all the hot keys. lol. I was trying to be all formal and he had enough patience with me to realize that I was trying to get into the guild. He directed me to Kat, and it was she that inducted me into the guild nearly without question. I think that I was asked my age, but that was it. I was guilded from that point on. The conversation that ensued was something along the lines of …

Run with us for a while, and if you think that MAC is something that fits your style, then you’re welcome to stick around. If turns out to not be what you had in mind, then no hard feelings.

There was hardly a wait before my mailbox started filling up. Even though there was skepticism about the purpose of my build, and the mechanics behind it, that didn’t stop any of them from stocking me up with goodies. I tried to turn a few of the donations down, and explained that I had no way of repaying such generosity, but that just seemed to make them send more. lol.

My work schedule varies dramatically, (who am I kidding … I don’t have a work schedule), so questing with the guildies has been sporadic and few and far in between. There always there for me though, answering what has now been labeled as “Shal’s question of the day.” Popping me into their group to answer questions to help me out. Always helpful … and when questing with them they would always give a thurough explanation as to what’s going on. Sometimes even slowing the whole group down to a crawl to let me do my own discovering. It’s always been a fun experience that you rarely find in a PUG.

Anyway … their generosity and comrodery over the past few months have enlightened me. While I don’t have a lot to offer the guild, I have taken from there examples and allowed them to make me a better person to the game. I give back to the guild by being presentable and I’ve taken the experience from MAC and have gone out of my way to make available my help, equipment, and even plat to users that seemed distressed or in need. Their concern for my characters, equipment, and even my funds are genuine … and for that I’m grateful to MAC.

So the name of the guild is fitting, in my opinion. I’ve met some fourteen and fifteen year olds that are more mature than some of the thirty or forty year olds that I know. I don’t think mature is an age, more like a state of mind.

the following is a frequently asked question regarding f2p users ...
Hi, I'm currently on the F2P beta, but intend to play F2P when it goes live on the Khyber server. Are F2P players eligible to join your Guild, or do you have to be a VIP?
i didnt know the answer to the question, so i asked a MAC officer and was given this responce ...
f2p are welcome as long as they meet our usual requirements. Be of age and conduct themselves well.

anouther testimonial ... this one from the land of down-under ....

DDO is my first MMORPG I've ever played. For about half a year tried different guilds, but had to PUG to get some progress.
MAC is the guild that guys actually help each other out, look after new players, but babysitting is not the utmost reason Fun we have each time we run some quest, that's it!

more, from a guild journeyman ...

I am an MMO veteran, I have played most MMO's out there.
I like DDO because it fits my life style but the real reason I like DDO is me cause of The MAC Guild!

Is nice to belong to a guild full of grown people and not have to deal with immature behavior (crude, opnostios...yes but never truly immature).

I would have given up on MMO's a long time ago if I have not found The MAC Guild!

an interesting story that a forum user shared with us ...

I was in the office this morning talking to a coworker about how I recently picked up DDO and gave it a whirl. He then told me that he knew all about DDO, and used to play it 'back in the day', and that he played on Khyber, and he mentioned his guild name ... Mature Adventurers Club. That rang a bell because I believe last night I adventured in the Waterworks with a Warforged Cleric named Sharko.

Sharko, if you're on here, thanks again for the tips and the expedient tour of waterworks.

MAC is currently expanding staff positions to accomidate the influx of users requesting to be guilded. If your an existing MAC member, and are interested in representing the guild in a formal manner (Its more work than you think!), please refer to this thread in the MAC forums ... How MAC Officers are made.

    Default Most encouraging!

I'm not yet ready to join a Guild; we shall see if my newfound fascination with DDO takes hold, or proves just a fleeting kick. If/when I AM ready, though, I'll start with the MAC. Classy!

    From a MAC Maven ...

    Ahh memories....
It's funny because in real life I don't think I'm a patient person, but in MAC at least I can let myself relax and be patient. Except that time Silvermayne fell on the run to DQ1 five consecutive times. That was a test for me. And that DQ1 run with thagor....but I digress.
In MAC I can teach what I know to new people and have fun that way, I can run with old friends and have fun that way. I've learned enough about how to play this game from Holdifled, Torrentt, Belthor, Krulak, and others that I can run with just about any group and feel I'm contributing. That being said I will never "outgrow" MAC because for me the fun of DDO is the people. I used to buy solo vidoe games and run through them in a month or 2 of solo play and buy the next one. All the diablos and the starcrafts and the star wars' and the Mysts and the Never Winter Nights andf the Baldur's Gates. Even old classic ones like X-Com UFO defense, BArd's Tale, the original Pools of Radiance, Curse of the Azure Bonds, Secret of the Silver Blades. The list isn't even half filled and I doubt I've ever put more than a few months into beating a game and finding the next one. I've been in DDO for more than 2 years. Even when I took a break and tried WOW for 6 months I'd wager that the guild I was in over there was sick of hearing about DDO and MAC. The thing that kept me in wow for more that a few months was the guild - a great group of people. But the game I love is DDO and the people I love in DDO are for the most part MACsters. You guildies are what keep me playing a game where I'm repeating the same missions I've run hundreds of times before. Sharing knowledge and experiences and talking builds and game theory and just hanging out. When my wife asks why I need to play EVERY night I tell her that DDO to me is like the Cheers bar to Norm. He stops by every day to have a cold one with his friends. I'm 36 and married. I'm too old, too poor, and too married to hang out in bars. My friends in the area have almost all moved away. You guys are my social network. My Cheers per se.

This from a guild officer ... this is the stuff MAC officers are made of.

It accrued to me one day, while lost in the crucible maze, that sure you get a little "how to" course when you first get to stormreach but you don't get a real guild to get you past the lvl 1 and 2 blues. Now, i'm sure that most of the people that come to stormreach can figure stuff out very quickly. Likewise they move up the food chain pretty fast. Or get picked up by a guild and swiped off into the stormreach world. What about those of us that don't get things that fast and need time to get the basics down right. I was one of the ones that just didn't know how to get what i wanted done. For a brief time when i first got to stormreach i was lost. Till I was picked up by my brothers guild and shown and taught what i needed to know. They took me to the waterworks and gave me a lesson in the many uses of grease clickies. 5 minutes of grease with no saving throws, good times were had, anyways, the point is they helped me get the hang of the game. So i have decided to help out our newer people by offering help to all those who want it. I have rolled a up a rogue that i will not lvl past 4, she is there in hopes that i can help people acclimate themselves to the game. I know what your thinking, no grease will be used. Unless the zurgging get out of hand. =) My goal is to get them up and around quickly so they can enjoy the game that much faster. Past couple of days I've pugged out a few times this idea and it seems to help people. We consentrated on the many ways you get around (tele-porting around from house to house etc) and who and where you need to go to get better armor (pawn shops and armors). I showed them basic strategy that must gamers use by second nature, like using a doorway as a good melee point and so on. I encourage more people to do this, i mean really, till the next mod gets here what better way to use your time. Difficulty lvl's might not be the same but the challenges are great, but the rewards are equal to them. Helping others helps you.

not knowing that the game mechanics for the quest had changed since the group last ventured into Stormcleave, a guild group set off as if it were any other day ...

a testimonial from a MAC, self proclaimed, Pirate in Training ...

Last night I played a Stormcleave adventure with all guildies. We failed bad and it was great. We worked together and tried very hard to finish. It just didnt happen. But no one got mad, no one yelled, we all worked together to try and rez and heal. Nevawinter used multiple Resurrections on me and I think others at his personal cost.

I was impressed with the quality of players this guild has. On top of that we shared treasure, you need that, Can I have that and wow the treasure system actually works better when your in a wonderful Guild.

more from the MAC forums ...

I've owned DDO for not quite a year and probably played less than anybody you can think of. MAC to me is a place where I'm always welcome. I can relax, de-stress, learn from non-judgemental people and enjoy playing a wonderful game.

Though my highest toon is Ohye at lvl 8, I know I'll see and enjoy more of the game with MAC. I'll become a better player because of your openly shared knowledge, and find that my DDO subscription here is probably the best dollar value I'll ever find in my life.

I played Asheron's Call belonging to a good "family guild" on Thistledown for 7 years beginning at retail. DDO is so much better. As is MAC itself. Here's an example:

I played last night with 2 folks from MAC who were totally new to me. I'd had a BAD work day, old PC was clunky and I was just about exhausted. We three hooked up easily, no strain like with some PUG's, and within minutes were having fun. The two of them redeemed my day, sent me off to bed later relaxed and happy. They embodied MAC. I also hope I upheld MAC values for them. I sure tried anyway. And Astargras (SP?) even sent a tell to see how we were doing. That's special!

Anyway, so much for my disjointed rambling. Thank you one and all from Ohye, Oldphart, Menjai and Michaeli. We feel like we're home.

Wow. That's all I can say... Your guild sounds awesome to this 41 year old man. Too bad I started some characters on Thelanis. I am hesitant to delete them even though there are all under level six. Still, you folks are worth a /bump just for the pure 'ole fashioned coolness factor!

    from a guild apprentice ...

We feel like we're home.
    you are home
