Post Build requests for heal paladin and ranger

Hi, I'll start playing this game with a friend and we'll party a lot, so we want to complement each other. I'm requesting a good paladin build, with good defense and heal possibilities but without dropping DPS too low. Also a Ranger build able to self heal and a decent DPS.

I've been looking around and I found some but they include Monk or WF and we are not VIP yet since we have to get hooked 1st before spending money. Anything goes as long as its free, doesn't have to be paladin or ranger. Will be appreciated.

Hardly the most optimized builds, but these meet your objectives… both use the Halfling Dragonmarks with UMD for full healing capability. Paladin is an Intimitank able to hold agro, and the Ranger is a fully capable trap Rogue – lvl20 is left open in case you decide to access Monks.

A +1 tome from the DDO store is used in the primary stat.

    Code:
    Heal Paladin

The above paladin will work good, the ranger however with 10 base strength. Go strength based and level ups in strength.

A Rogueadin, and a Exploiter Build, 2 very good choices, I was about to recommend the exact same things.

Both builds would be decent dps, good AC, dual-weilders, good self-healing, and both have evasion. They would complement each other well.

However, my one recommendation would to not get the halfling dragonmark feats. Use the feats for more combat-oriented things. At mid-levels both rangers and paladins get spell points, which can eventually be used to heal, in addition, both classes can use cure light/mod/serious wands. (At higher levels, due to the rogue levels you will have high enough UMD to use HEAL scrolls.

However, it is personal preference. Though feat-consuming, the halfling dragonmark healing feats are very convenient. You could always start a build w/ those feats, and swap them out down the line.

EDIT: Absolute-Omniscience has a good point, you should make the Ranger Strength-Based, since you most likely won't have the equipment/weapons necessary to make a Finesse build (Finesse = a DEX based build)
EDIT 2: I would also make the Pally STR-Based, and add Khopeshs.....
EDIT 3: Make the pally Two-Weapon-Fighting, I know it is very very tight on feats, but when hitting Smite/Divine Sacrifice at the right time, it hits twice if you wield 2 weapons and attack right.

Useful, useful, thanks a lot for your help, I'll take a deep look at those builds, however I got a question: those +1 tomes, what are they and why should I get them?

Just a few other tips / additions; Both Paladins and Rangers can heal via healing wands (cure light wounds wands, cure moderate wounds, etc). Starting out in the game this will be your least expensive and most affective healing method, and you can find these at certain wand vendors throughout the city.

I agree with the idea of splashing rogue on both characters, and one of the big reasons for this is the skill UMD. Keep these skills maxed and at higher levels you'll be able to use healing scrolls, raise dead scrolls, race restricted items you normally wouldn't be able to use, as well as lots of other goodies (my personal favorite: teleport scrolls).

Lastly, don't rely on SP for healing. Both Paladins and Rogues do not get very many SP (unless you reach high level and build a +sp greensteel item), and these are better spent on buffs. So use those healing wands when you get started.

I'm still wondering about the tomes and also got a new question. What are 28 and 32 points chars? Seems like you can only get to 16 in some cases, whats the deal with this?

The tomes are an inherent bonus to the ability score. They can be found randomly in any lvl7+ chest (ie lvl10+ quests), bought off the AH or purchased from the Online Store. The builds do not NEED them, but they are fairly cheap and when your characters hit lvl4 and put a stat point into their ability score making them odd, the tome would make it even again. Only even stats increase the modifier; odd stats are used for feat prerequisites.

Just an quick and easy way to get a small advantage as you play the game. They certainly are not required, but for a new player starting off the twinkage does not hurt.

Be advised that a Cleric hireling costs a fairly low amount of plat, lasts for an hour, and can cast a large number of healing spells.

A hireling healer is stupendously more affordable than a Paladin or Ranger using wands.

For a new player, your character recieves 28 points to buy stats. The basic situation is that all of tour abilitiy scores are set at 8 and you buy additional points in your 6 scores up to a maximum value of 18. From 8 to 14, you buy ability scores on a 1 to 1 basis. From 15 to 16, scores are bought on a 2 for 1 basis, and 17 and 18 are bought on a 3 for 1 basis. So for a human, a 14 costs 6 points, a 16 costs 10 points, and an 18 costs 16 points. Most races have 1 favored stat and 1 unfavored stat. So an elf starts at a 10 and can go to 20 for the same price a human would pay for an 18. But their constitution starts at a 6, and they can only go to 16 while paying the same price as a human would for an 18.

Once you get 1750 Favor( a pretty significant accomplishment) your new characters will have 32 points to spend instead of 28. One exception to this is drow. Drow have 3 favored stats-- Dex, Int, and Chr-- but only 1 unfavored stat-- Con. Allowing them to gain 32 point builds would be potentially overpowering. When drow were first introduced, there weren't too many characters that weren't drow or dwarves. Adding 32 point builds restored the diversity in races.

If you have any other questions, try downloading Ron's Character Planner and play around with the stat distribution for a while. You should get the hang of it fairly quickly.

Bit confusing, but I kinda get it. Thanks. Not much has being said about this in this forums, at least not very frequently. I'll try the planner.
