    Default Greaves Question

Just pulled my first set of Firesotrm greaves (about freaking time). I was looking at it and am trying to see the ub3r l33tn3ss of it.. could someone help me out with my lack of understanding...

Here is what i am thinking:
fire resistance 10 - ok nice, kinda
33% Fire absorbsion - real nice
Boots - kinda problematic for my current gear.

mY problem is that I loose either striding 30% and +10 Tumble or Feather Fall or have to constantly juggle the Mummified Bat for the bloodstone on my pali. It might work on my sorc if I move things around, but would have to get the bat from CO6 first for her.

I have a ring of feathers (heavitly beaten up as it it old but still works) on my lowbie but seems a waste to lose a +6 stat slot or GFL or ring of thelis slot on my caster

my question, How do you guys use it? is it a hot swap type of item for situational needs like in shroud where everything seems to have some kind of fire component? what gives?

Just switch them on for the Shroud Boss fights, or in Meridia's flag quest for shroud where you have to fight them Fire Ele's they help a ton when you know when to put them on.

I use my boots for Feather fall + jump 10, greaves, and madstone. Just switch to which ever is appropriate, U don't need feather fall on all the time.

Well that is what i was assertaining from it's properties. It is a nice item but not really nice enough to cause me to wear them all the time. so hot swap item it is..... It will go into rotation with my others...

    thanks...

    +1 to you all

Shroud 4 and 5, Enter the Kobold, Shroud 3 if you need to tank fire ele are probably the places where they shine the most. Especially on a non evasion character. On an evasion character you can solo Kobold and not get hit. ever.

I use them situationally on my cleric that doesnt have evasion. In shroud, vod, kobold, and the subteranean near those wonderful living spells...that and a cloak of ice and you are gtg.

Striding comes on other things like Rings, Dragontouched armor and you can always rely on clickies/consumables for haste like effects.

I've got one character that uses a non-striding boot that just uses a striding ring instead.

yeah I hear ya, was just trying to figure out how most peeps use them and if they were a situational use item or a static use item. looks like everyone is saying situational.

and yeah... I do have a toon that uses the strider ring instead of the strider boots.. it works out well...

    Thanks

    yup,
I have time trinkets for town areas with haste clickies.

and haste clickies for open areas and quests,

only put the greves on when it's needed .

Put them on at the end of VoD. Click your Cloak of Ice. Watch your health bar compared to others in the group when the bats appear. You will be happy for your boots. If not, then mail them to Coldest.

feather fall is overrated. much more fun and faster to drop like a rock (more fun to watch too when someone forgets it also, even more fun trying to swap that ff item at the very last possible second for the parachute effect heh

Boots are a great swappable spot. I use that for FF and Striding on all my characters. On the ones that have Firestorm Greaves, I use those as well. They're best, IMO, on classes that can't cast Fireshield. Use them on your melee or clerics in the situations people have already listed. In all those situations, you have no need of FF or Striding, so you might as well use something useful. It does make a big difference.

This is Bart we speak of. Before he knows WHEN to put them on, he needs to know HOW to put them on.
