Default Ted Kennedy Tribute, with pictures.

    The Ted Kennedy Pictorial Tribute.

Edward Moore Kennedy was born on Feb. 22, 1932: in Boston, the youngest of nine children of Joseph P. and Rose Kennedy. Seated from left in this 1938 family picture in Hyannis Port, Mass., are Eunice, Jean, Edward on the lap of his father Joseph, Patricia and Kathleen. Standing from left are Rosemary, Robert, John, Rose and Joseph Jr.

    Ted, John, & Robert KENNEDY.

Ted on right, posing with some of his Harvard teammates.

Ted Kennedy and Joan Bennett kneel on altar and receive communion from Francis Cardinal Spellman, Archbishop of New York, in Bronxville, N.Y.

Nov. 25, 1963 at John F. Kennedy's burial at Arlington Memorial Cemetery. Three-year-old John F. Kennedy Jr. salutes his father's casket. Widow Jacqueline Kennedy, center, and daughter Caroline are accompanied by the late president's brothers Sen. Edward Kennedy, left, and Attorney General Robert Kennedy.

In 1968, tragedy struck the Kennedy family again as Robert, Senator from New York running for President, was felled by an assassin's bullet.

Above, Edward reaches out to widow Ethel on the steps of St. Patrick's Cathedral after funeral services. Sen. Kennedy's eulogy would later be chosen one of the best American speeches of the 20th century.

Throughout his esteemed career, Sen. Kennedy showed a dedication to civil rights issues, championing a number of causes including the increase of minimum wage, and key legislation such as Title IX and the Voting Rights Act amendments.

On May 14, 1994, the Senator sat in front of portraits of Robert F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr. alongside an array of civil rights leaders, (r-l) President Clinton, Martin Luther King III, Dexter Scott King, Ethel Kennedy and Irish Prime Minister Albert Reynolds during the groundbreaking ceremony for a Martin Luther King Jr. and Robert F. Kennedy statue at the Indianapolis, Ind. MLK Jr. Memorial Park.

Senator Kennedy kept doing what he loved with a smile on his face, throwing out the first pitch at a game between the Boston Red Sox and the Tampa Bay Rays at Fenway Park on April 7, 2009, in Boston.

I'll have to forgive him for this one ... I'm a diehard Yankees fan! Big ups though, a man's man.

Although I disagree with just about everything he's stood for and voted on in the 80's-90's and 2000's, I do appreciate and thank him for his service.

Few men have the conviction of their ideals as Teddy. I'll always think of how sad it was that one with such potential as he never became what he was destined to due to his personal demons. RIP Ted.

Either way as it has been said love him or hate him the man was a long time fixture in American politics and to many he did a good service. Not many politicians are squeaky clean if any so what he did in the past is between him and those who were wronged and in now way should be spouted out by people who were not there or affected by it. Thats my opinion on this and may he rest in peace.

A post about a political person is not a political post. If you feel Ted Kennedy does not deserve a tribute, feel free to make a separate thread about it, but please leave this one to those who would like to celebrate his memory.

So posts thanking President Bush or Vice President Cheney for their commitment to protecting our country from terrorism are ok? Or on the other side, thanking Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid for their commitment to the environment through their dedication to Cap & Trade legislature wouldn't be a political post?

And would anyone who responded disputing any of these facts have their posts removed for politcizing what was clearly just "a post about a political person"?

This policy is clear as mud.

Here are just some opinions by some you would THINK might get political, but didnt.

British Prime Minister Gordon Brown said: "Senator Edward Kennedy will be mourned not just in America but in every continent. He is admired around the world as the Senator of Senators. He led the world in championing children's education and health care, and believed that every single child should have the chance to realize their potential to the full."

Former first lady of United States Nancy Regan said: "Given our political differences, people are sometimes surprised by how close Ronnie and I have been to the Kennedy family. In recent years, Ted and I found our common ground in stem cell research, and I considered him an ally and a dear friend. I will miss him." Rooted in his deep patriotism, his abiding faith, and his deep concern for the least among us, no one has done more than Senator Kennedy to educate our children, care for our seniors, and ensure equality for all Americans, The Telegraph quoted Nancy Pelosi, Democratic Leader of the House, as saying.

California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, who is also husband of Kennedy's niece Maria Shriver and a Republican, said: "He was known to the world as the Lion of the Senate, a champion of social justice and a political icon .... Teddy inspired our country through his dedication to health care reform, his commitment to social justice, and his devotion to a life of public service."

Harry Reid, US senate majority leader said: "It was the thrill of my lifetime to work with Ted Kennedy. He was a friend, the model of public service and an American icon. As we mourn his loss, we rededicate ourselves to the causes for which he so dutifully dedicated his life.

Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd said: "Ted Kennedy was a great American, a great Democrat and also a great friend of Australia. He has made an extraordinary contribution to American politics, an extraordinary contribution to America's role in the world."

Tony Blair, former British prime minister - "Senator Kennedy was a figure who inspired admiration, respect and devotion, not just in America but around the world. He was a true public servant committed to the values of fairness, justice and opportunity."

Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu said: "(Senator) Kennedy has been a friend for 30 years, a great American patriot, a great champion of a better world, a great friend of Israel. He will be sorely missed." Kennedy, played major roles in passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Voting Rights Act of 1965, the 1990 Americans with Disabilities Act and the 1993 Family and Medical Leave Act.

That would be Ted Kennedy walking side by side Dr. Martin Luther King and entourage as they get a personal tour of the US Senate in 1964. Ted was instrumental in behind-the-scenes work in order to advance freedom for ALL Americans, and did all he could to ensure success of the civil rights movement..

Kennedy to be buried at Arlington

WASHINGTON — Sen. Edward M. Kennedy will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery near his slain brothers, former President John F. Kennedy and former Sen. Robert F. Kennedy.

An official knowledgeable about the arrangements told The Associated Press on Wednesday that Kennedy, the liberal lion of the Senate for nearly half a century, would be laid to rest near his brothers on the famous Virginia hillside that serves as the burial sites of others from the storied clan, including former first lady Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because arrangements were still under way.
National Security Adviser Gen. James L. Jones remarked on Kennedy’s passing: “Senator Kennedy, among the many things he will be remembered for, deserves to be honored for his genuine care and compassion for our men and women in uniform — his tireless work and his voting record clearly supports this distinction.

“While he never shied from challenging our senior military leadership during hundreds of committee hearings, he could always be counted on to be fair and open-minded in letting witnesses like me make our case to the committee and to the American people.”
At the site of the eternal flame rest four Kennedy family members: the former president and his wife; their baby son, Patrick, who died after two days; and a stillborn child. Former Robert F. Kennedy is buried a short distance away.

Kennedy died late Tuesday after a yearlong struggle with brain cancer. He was 77.
A senior defense official said the Kennedy family approached the Army some time ago to explore the possibility of burying the senator at Arlington, the nation’s most celebrated burial ground of fallen military and the resting place of astronauts, Supreme Court justices and other giants in American history.

The most probable place would be near the grave of his brother, Robert, the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity because the family had not yet announced the arrangements.

Kennedy is eligible for burial at Arlington by virtue of his service in Congress as well as his two years in the Army, 1951 to 1953. He was a private first class and served in the military police at Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe, then located in Paris and then in Belgium.

Instead of offering my own opinion on how much Ted Kennedy did for the US Military over the 5 DECADES he served, I'll give the mic to the US Department of Veterans Affairs who headlined this story today on their website. Click here for the story. http://www.va.gov/

    Here's the text:

On behalf of the Department of Veterans Affairs and our Nation's Veterans, I extend our deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences to Senator Kennedy's wife and family.

With the passing of Senator Edward M. Kennedy, the Nation has lost a forceful, compassionate voice for Veterans. Senator Ted Kennedy knew there are many ways to serve our country and one was through military service. His life-long support for homeless Veterans enabled VA to develop the Department's programs into a viable, nationwide campaign.

A staunch advocate for education, he lent his voice and energy to the improvement of educational benefits for generations of military members and Veterans, most recently with the new Post-9/11 GI Bill. His forethought to broaden access to health care was important to VA when the Department undertook a major reorganization of its health care system earlier this decade.

Senator Kennedy's voice may have been silenced, but his message remains and his commitment to public service will be an example for generations to come.

    Here's Arlington's own words:

For the almost four million people who visit annually, Arlington National Cemetery represents many different things. For some, it is a chance to walk among headstones that chronicle American history; for many, it is an opportunity to remember and honor the nation's war heroes; and for others, it is a place to say a last farewell during funeral services for a family member or friend.
